Karen: So were here up close and personal today with a very special artist its Monica
Silva she's an abstract artist and I've had the pleasure to meet and followed her work
is absolutely fantastic and i'm bringing it to you right here at the studio, How are you
Monica?
Monica: Doing very good thank you
Karen: I absolutely love your art have always been admiring you work and know I get the
chance to talk to you and ask some questions and you know Im a very curious girl so, I
hope your ready for it
Monica: Go Ahead
Karen: What kind of energy do you transpire into your art as well?
Monica: Ive been compared to Frida Khalo and before I even knew of her I didnt understand
and what I knew of her is that she paints with emotion, so here for example
you get to see the texture which represents the turmoil and just overcoming in general.
I paint because I have to paint ok?. If I dont paint I have pain physical pain emotional
pain and I just have to, I have to on a daily basis.
Karen: Now your preparing this special collection for an event thats coming up now this is the
"Evoke thoughts" collection right?
Monica:Yes
Karen:What kid of art what kind of taste and style how does this happen?
Monica: Alot of times when my mind is unclear if im stressed I cant find the solution, I
cant see the path so...what I realized is the moment I find that mental clarityI'm able
to suddenly, "Oh I found the solution, Oh it wasn't that hard, so I'm trying to evoke
that.
Karen:So we're getting down and dirty in Monica's studio I ah couldn't keep myslelf clean, but
I really am intrigued by these paintings and I want to get to know and learn more about
it.
Monica: I think we all as kids like to draw and paintIt wasn't until high school that
I realized that it wasn't that I wasn't just a kid drawing my art teacher I wish I remembered
her name but my art teacher in 10th grade she took a watercolor that I did put it into
an art show and I won so I just found out that I won I didn't even know I was in the
art show, and It's actually was sent to the KC Wright building here in downtown Ft. Lauderdale
and I guess at that point I realized ok well maybe I am good at this let me keep it going
through peoples feed back mentors and in the beginning when I was an adolescent it was
really people just egging me on once I became a mother and life started happening I realized
that it wasn't just that, I needed to do it I needed to do it for myself I tried to a
to have a normal job I worked for T-Mobile I worked for banks I did a few other things
and when I didn't have the time to paint, thats when it hurt and thats when I started
realizing that I need to do this fulltime.
