Welcome back to the Getting Started with Oracle Endeca Information Discovery v3.0 screencast series.
This screencast will show you how to create a basic Studio application that can be used to view data that has been loaded in an Oracle
Endeca Server data domain.
Lets first log into Studio.
The first thing we will do is set up a data source for the BikeStore data domain.
A data source defines the connection information for the Oracle Endeca Server data domain that our application will use.
So, let's go into the Control Panel.
Then click Data Sources within Information Discovery.
This page shows you the defined data sources.
You'll notice I have already set up the GettingStarted data domain. This is used to populate the Getting Started application.
The product comes with a default-schema data source for a sample data domain named 'adventureworks'.
Let's just update that data source to point to our "BikeStore" data domain.
And since this is an unsecured training environment and not a production environment, I can remove some content that is unnecessary.
Then click 'Back to Home'.
Now let's create a new application.
Enter an application name and optionally, a description, and select the appropriate data source.
Creating a new application is that easy. Let's go to this application and view the data.
The default page contains a Search Box, Breadcrumbs, and Guided Navigation on the left and a Results Table on the right.
You'll notice data is already being loaded.
Since we have configured this application's data source to point to the BikeStore data domain, there is nothing more we need to do.
Now let's explore the data.
The Results Table displays individual sales transactions, that are the base records in the Oracle Endeca Server data domain.
The columns displayed are configurable. Notice that the new spec attribute we just created appears as the first column.
You can see there are 60855 records, which matches the number of records reported in Integrator.
The table has an Actions dropdown with Print and Export as options.
Later in this screencast series, we will create and configure a new Results table.
Let's build another page.
We'll first click on the Add Page button, and call this page Explore.
You can first choose a Layout Template. The default is a 2-column layout, which is what we want, so click Save.
We will then choose Add Component to open up the Component Palette.
We'll use components from Information Discovery. You can drag the components or click Add to add them to the dashboard.
We'll start by adding Guided Navigation to left column.
Then we'll add Breadcrumbs Followed by the Search Box
In the right column, we'll add the Data Explorer
The Data Explorer component is intended to show the raw data that is stored in the Oracle Endeca Server data domain.
You'll notice that an Oracle Endeca record was created for each row of the FactSales data file.
And each of the columns in that data file was tagged onto the Oracle Endeca record as attributes.
Because we have only loaded in the fact table, there isn't a lot of data here that is useful to navigate or search on yet.
For example, if I wanted to find Sales by a particular employee, all I have available right now is the EmployeeKey.
It would be much more useful if I could see employee names so that I knew exactly which employee I was looking at.
So in the next screencast we'll go back and join the employee information to this sales data.
In this screencast you learned how to create a basic Studio application that can be used to view data that has been loaded in an Oracle
Endeca Server data domain.
The next screencast in the series will show you how load and join in a second data source.
