My name is Anthony Maddaloni I'm a professional photographer from Austin, Texas. I'm going
to be talking about the range finder feature on a speed graphic four by five large format
camera. Now one cool thing about this camera is that there is a range finder on this camera
and now what that means is that with the range finder camera, normally found on thirty five
medium format cameras, but these cameras have a special feature built in to them where you
can actually look through it, ok, this little part right here. Rather then looking through
the ground glass. You could use this feature if you were in a rush and by using this control
focus you could have a range finder and you could use that to focus with. Now what a range
finder is, it splits the image in two and as you bring the image into focus, it becomes
one. They're not the easiest to use in the world and depending upon what kind of range
finder feature you have built in, some of them are brighter and some of them are darker.
The more expensive ones are the brighter ones. And the more economical ones are the ones
that are darker. So you kind of get what you pay for, but it will save you a ton of time
in focusing if you have a good one. And again if I'm in a rush, or if I'm shooting kind
of quick, that's what I like to use rather then using the ground glass and a focusing
hood. So that is how you use the range finder feature on your four by five camera.
