>> Craig Newmark: Folks, thanks.
I appreciate it.
I'd like to hear another round of applause for the people
who have been up here.
[ Applause ]
The deal is, is that they've, they've presented a snapshot
of the challenges that are real that are faced
by Military families and Veterans.
They presented a snapshot of real things that are going
on to help people who've given so much for, for the country.
I mean I seriously am a nerd, the glasses that I wear,
I hope you like them, they're new but they're the same
that I was wearing 40 years ago with --
taped together and with a plastic pocket protector.
But I work with the public every day in customer service
and I can tell you that people
in the public have already conveniently forgotten
that we do owe so much to, to so few.
And I'd like to call upon you to help people like me
to remind the public that a lot's going on
and that a lot more needs to, to go on.
So help me help you do what you're doing.
If you've got something going on, helping out families
and Veterans, post it in social media, email me and others,
you know, the links of those, that's Craig and craigslist.org,
I'll push it out to my social networks and that means anywhere
from hundreds to tens of millions
of people more will see it.
I really need you to do that kind of thing.
Barbara, wherever she is, hidden by the big lights,
the stories you told in just a few slides, those are stories
that will actually mean something to people.
Please sent those to me, send them to me now and send them
to me in 10 years because the public will need
to be reminded then.
Becky, it looks like you're doing good things to help
out homeless Vets and so on, but I'm judging a contest
for the Department of Veterans Affairs so don't send me that,
'cause I don't want to recuse myself from voting for that.
The ideas that people, like me, in the civilian population,
people like me who barely have a clue of anything,
let us know what's going on and let us know what sharing --
let us -- what we should be sharing
out there with the public.
Another real thing, you know, I work with Consumer Reports,
which is real concerned with payday lenders,
especially payday lenders who lurk on the edges
of Military Bases, who may be really ripping families off,
let me know more about that 'cause I have a feeling I should
be speaking up there.
So the theme there is that people are doing real work,
you've just seen very brief talks on people
who are really helping out Military families and Veterans.
Let's get the word out about what they're doing.
Let's get the word out about what you're doing to people
in the population who, again, owe so much to so few people.
