Hi, this is Dave for Expert Village today we're going to be making some Cajun shepherds
pie. Next for the topping for our Cajun shepherds pie we're going to have some mashed potatoes
made, so I'm going to show you how to peel one of these. There's a lot of different types
of peelers now a days some are fancier than others, the one that I grew up with it has
a pivoting little blade that goes onto the contour of the potato. I prefer this one but
that's what I grew up with so what you want to do is there is two ways of doing it you
can either cut away from you or you can use a little pairing knife method where you can
just come towards you with the blade. It really doesn't matter which way you like to do it
see you can go away just like that and what we're going to do we're going to make a nice
topping for our shepherds pie. Which is like a meatloaf but this is going to have some
nice surprises to unlike what most meatloafs you see. So you want to do about 5 or 6 of
these for this particular size of meatloaf. Since we have our potatoes peeled we want
to do is just kind of make some smaller pieces cause it's easier to boil through and cook.
We have a nice big pot of boiling salted water right here on our stove so we want to add
those I just like to go lengthwise. Depending on the size of your potatoes I like to cut
them this way they're going to boil in about fork tender in about 15 minutes. So while
your meatloaf is cooking these will be cooking right along aside of them and we're going
to show you how all this comes together in a little bit.
