This is going to be the tutorial to show you how to make
this butterfly stitch beanie
I'm not going to show you how to do the flower in this tutorial, If you want to learn
go to my flower headband tutorial
I'm just going to be showing your how to make this beanie
for this tutorial, you will need a 5.5 mm hook
and
and a skein of regular worsted weight yarn
4ply for the US and 10 ply for AU
So grab your 5.5 mm hook and lets get started
make a slip knot
and chain 3
slip stitch into the beginning chain
and chain 1
and now i'm going to do
twelve
single crochets
into the ring
that I just made
okay I got my twelve single crochets
And I'm going to count my stitches
2, 4, 6, .....12
go in through your 12th stitch
slip stitch
chain one
and now start your butterfly stitch in the same stitch
that you just slip stitched into
so wrap your yarn around your hook
go in through the stitch
pull up a loop
Whoops sorry
You don't yarn over
sorry I have been doing a lot of double crochet stuff latley
you do in through the next stitch
pull up a loop
pull through one-loop
then you go back in through
the same stitch
pull up another loop
go through two loops
then go through two loops again
then chain one
and the increase for this round is going to be a little different
than for the rest of hat
your going to go back in through that same stitch that you just did
pull up a loop
pull through one of the loops
then go into next loop
pull up a loop
then pull through two
pull through two again, then chain one
so you're going to be starting the first part of the stitch
in the last stitch that you did
then complete it in the next
this is where i completed the stitch
so this is the place I go in again
to start my stitch
pull up a loop
pull through on loop
go into the next stitch
pull through two loops, then pull through the other two loops, chain 1
go into the same stitch
pull up a loop
pull through one
go in the next stitch
pull up a loop
pull through two
chain one
go into the same stitch
pull up a loop
pull through one loop
go into the next stitch and pull up a loop
pull through two loops, pull through two loops, chain one
again go into the same stitch you just finished and pull up a loop
pull through one loop
pull through two
then pull through two
chain one
continue to do this for the rest of your stitches
at the end you should have twenty four stitches
okay I am at the end of my row
each butterfly stitch
to the next butterfly stitch
you'll see two stitches
so that's two
four
six eight
ten
twelve
fourteen
sixteen eighteen twenty twenty two
and in this last connection here will give us the last 2 stitches to make the 24 that we need
go in through the same stitch
pull up a loop
and then go through
go in through the chain space where we began
pull up a loop
pull through two, pull through two
chain one
then I want to slip stitch
to this top part
and this will give us our twenty two
I mean twenty four work spaces
now you want to chain one
and into the first stitch here
of the round around
pull up a loop
pull through one
and go into the next stitch
pull through two, pull through two, chain one
and the long stitch here is going to be the beginning of our round
now we want to increase
the next stitch
we go in through one of the
stitches at the butterfly, see the butterfly?
your going to go in through
the first wing
and do the who butterfly stitch into that one wing
for my increase
so going into the space
pull up a loop
chain one
then I'm going to go
in through that same space
just go back into the space, and finish the butterfly stitch
chain one
now in the other wing of the butterfly, put a full butterfly stitch in there
chain one ends the stitch
and it's a very improtant part of the stitch
so now the next stitch
we're going to be using both wings of the butterfly
pull up a loop
pull through one loop
now go through the next wing and pull up a loop
pull up a loop
pull through two, pull through two, chain one
we did the whole stitch
using both wings
to do an increase he do what we did here
you do a whole into one wing, and a whole butterfly stitch into
the next wing
since the last stitch we did a single, the next one is going to be an increase
so go in through the first wing
go in pull up a loop, pull through one loop, go in through the same stitch
pull up a loop, pull though two loops, pull through two loops and chain one
now to continue our increase, go in through the next wing
do a butterfly stitch all in same stitch
and that's our second increase
next one
you want to do the next butterfly stitch using both wings of the butterfly
we won't be increasing here
so go in through one wing of the butterfly, pull up a loop, pull through one loop
go in through the next wing and pull up a loop, pull through two, pull through two, chain one
so we did the whole butterfly stitch as normal
and this is how you are going to complete this round
one stitch being normal
one increase
one stitch beging normal
one increase
continue that all the way around
by the end you should have thirty-six stitches
just coming to the end of my row
I just counted my stitches i have thirty four
so this last stitch will give me the thirty six that I need
and i wanted to show you
that this is the connection from the previous
the stitch here is sightly slanted
going
this direction insterad of
up and down like a normal butterfly
so you can easily see it
as it goes along you'll be able to see it even more
so if you can see here
this is the
a stitch here when we get a connection
and there's a little hole here
to complete the last stitch of the round
we're going to be using
this big part
and then this little hole here we'll be using to finish
our stitch
so the last stitch of the round will always be using that little hole
so go in through
the big stitch here
pull up a loop
go through it
then go in through that little hole
pull up a loop
pull through two, pull through two
chain one
and then
this is that big loop
big stitch that is formed with the first stitch f the round
slip stitch into that stitch
that will complete our
third round
now for round four
chain one
and in this first butterfly stitch
go in through the first wing
pull up a loop
pull through one loop, go in through that same wing
we're going to be doing an increased this first stitch
then complete the butterfly stitch
then go in through the next wing, put a butterlfy stitch in there
chain one
and now for the next two stitches
we want to do a regular butterfly stitch
which is going into one wing
then going in through the other wing to complete the stitch
then repeat for the next stitch as well
pull up a loop
pull through one loop
go in through the next, pull up a loop, pull through two loops, pull through two loops,
chain one
so we did our increase, then two regular butterfly stitches
butterfly stitches
so now we need to do an increase
again
putting a whole butterfly stitch in each wing
so put one butterfly stitch in one wing
and one into the next
and we're going to continue to do that for the whole round
we do an increase then
two
single butterfly stitches
then an increase
at the end of the round you should have fourty eight stitches
I am at the end of round four
and I have 46 stitches
and I have two singles and usually this would be an increase
but I have fourty six stitches and I need 48 so I only need to do one more
so the last three stitches are going to be single
using the same
stitch as I showed you before
use this big stitch
and then you have a little hole here
you'll need
finish the stitch
so go into the first big stitch
then use this small hole
finish my stitch
slip stitch using this big stitch
at the beginning
slip stitch to finish round four
For round five
chain one
and the first butterfly
do an increase
put one whole stitch in one wing
and put the next whole stitch in the other wing
then we're
going to be doing
single stitch in each butterfly
for the next six
stitches
So do a regular one
which uses
both wings of the butterfly
That was my sixth butterfly
so in this next stitch
we'll do an increase
so do a whole butterfly stitch, in each wing
and then for the next six stitches, we're going to put a single
and then
in the seventh
do an increase
and at the end of this round you should have fifty six stitches
I am at the end of my row
six stitches, then an increase last row
now I have come up to the stitch where I have an increase
then do three single stitches to finish the round
right now at fifty four stitches and i need a total of fifty six
so i'm going to my last stitch
into the same space as before
ending the roudn the same way
everytime the same
so the last 4 stitches of this row will be, an increase and then
and three single stitches
This is the end of round five
For Round six
and
if you want to make this hat for a toddler
do a total of ten rounds
you've already done four
we don't count the center as one
you've done four of the butterfly stitch rows
so if you want to make the hat for a toddler
do another six rounds
for a total of 10 rounds
if you won't make it for a child
do 11 rounds
and if you want to do it for an adult do a total of twelve rounds
but from now on
we're not going to be increasing. We are done with the increase rounds.
so from now on just put one butterfly stitch using both wings of the butterfly
and just depends on how do you want to make the hat
toddler 10, child 11
adult 12 rounds
before starting the rim of the hat
so make it the size that you want and I'll met you back here and show
you how to do the rim of this hat
I just got done with all my rounds
this is a hat for an adult, so I did 12 rounds
as you can see the
you can see kind of a
line
from the last of the rounds
that hopefully won't be so noticeable
once it's done
because the hat is so detailed
so what you do for the next round
is
chain one
then single crochet in each stitch around
and when I say each stitch I mean each wing of the butterfly
just like that
then go into the next
butterfly
putting a single crochet in each wing
continue to do this all the way around
place a marker to mark the beginning single crochet
and you need to do
five total rounds of Single crochets
you have fifty six stitches and you should stitch have fifty six stitches at the end of this round
for each round
when you reach the beginning of your round, no need to slip stitch, just keep going
in one continuous round
this is where you chained one before starting your first single crochet
just skip that little chain one space and single crochet right into the first single crochet
of the round
continue single crocheting all around
after completing your first round
go ahead and count your stitches
because I have fifty eight
so if that's the same case for you
go ahead
single crochet about
five, six or seven single crochets
don't decrease close together
so single crochet several then do a decrease
then repeat, you only need to do this one more time
to get the 56 stitches you need
somewhere
separated from one another so that it doesn't show up
I just got done with my 5th round
go into the next stitch
and slip stitch
chain one
cut your yarn
then you can turnarounds
working there
through your
stitches
you don't need your marker
and this
completes
the tutorial
butterfly stitch beanie
and I showed you on
this one
you can put a flower on it, same flower I used on my flower headband
if you want to make that one
and also I have
a tutorial to show you how to make this
sunflower bookmarker
is what this is, just in a different color
when I sew this flower on to the hat
i don't
sew it down flat. I always go in here
and here
so I am leaving this little ridge on the edge
I have this pattern
