MistaJam; "So, Kamal." Kamal: "Yes." Ayesha; "Yes."
MistaJam; "You're both recent graduates of NCS. I want to talk to you Ayesha first because Kamal, you're the guy
you have wait.
What did you get out of the programme?"
Ayesha; "I got a few
different skills, like leadership skills and also got an opportunity to make new friends
and I've also got the opportunity now to join Supporter to Reporter who train up young
people to become reporters, and myself I'd like to become a TV reporter in the future."
MistaJam; "Really?" Ayesha; "Yeah."
MistaJam; "Ok, so
what did you get out NCS that you probably wouldn't have got
had you not
involved yourself?"
Ayesha; "I think
if I didn't go NCS, I think, I don't know what I'd
have done throughout the whole summer holidays
so it's the fact that I've
have the will to actually get up
and actually
go and do something
constructive that I wouldn't have been able to do if I didn't go." MistaJam; "What about you Kamal?"
Kamal; "Obviously I'm a footballer,
love doing stuff around the sporting environment so when i was told it was to do something
with Leyton Orient, I thought yeah.
But also I was told by my Mum, so I thought it was going to be something to do with army base,
thought I was going to have to be doing drills, this and that,
doing stuff that I just didn't like
so obviously I didn't really want to go but then was I forced to go so I went.
When I found out what it was, it was quite nice."
MistaJam; "So what did the NCS programme give to you that you
may not have got otherwise?" Kamal; "Well, things like leadership skills,
communication with other people other than what you're used to,
making new friends out of the social barrier that you're used to,
and that's it really." MistaJam; "Causes there were a lot of different kind of people for both of you right?"
Ayesha; "There were a lot of different types of
people around,
when I was, I actually shared a room with a girl who actually lives on my road
and we didn't actually know that we lived on the same road as each other,
so it was quite a funny moment when we was asking whereabouts we live
and we both said we lived on the same road, so, yeah."
MistaJam; "And you had to wait until you went away somewhere to find out you were neighbours.
Ayesha; "Yeah but it was a really great experience, like there was
a lot different people from different schools in the area that
if i didn't go I don't think I would have actually got the opportunity to make
friends with them,
so yeah."
MistaJam; "Now for a lot of people
kind of watching this right now
they maybe in a similar position to you last year where it's a cases
of Mum's on the case saying you need to go and do something
constructive
why should they get involved with NCS, what did you get out of it
that's going to make them think I need to do this?"
Kamal; "Well, what I've got from doing NCS is
obviously I've got a job now with the Leyton Orient 'cause
they saw me and they liked the way I presented myself, how I was
they saw that I had leadership skills
which I didn't see at first, they saw
they could see that I had leadership skills that I could communicate with people other than what I'm
used to, and what I got from it was
obviously I got a job and I got the
belief in myself,
I was able to do other stuff to help my community out
which is one that, obviously at the moment I'm working on the community trying to get people
from what they're doing in everyday life to what they can do in everyday life."
MistaJam; "This is a big opportunity though right?"
Ayesha; "Yeah, big opportunity so make sure you do actually take the opportunity to
go on NCS, it's a great experience, like Kamal said he's been able to get a job out of it,
myself I've got a level two community sports leadership award now
and also being a part of Supporter to Reporter, getting an opportunity to get an insight into becoming
a TV presenter, so it was a great insight into what I want to do for the future."
