OWRDGO exists to provide facility and operations funding and to develop employment opportunities
throughout communities nationwide where OneWorld Roller Derby leagues have formed.
We are paving the way for mainstream roller derby by working with USA Roller Sports (USARS),
which is recognized by the US Olympic Committee.
With dedicated facilities and operations staffing, we can continue with and expand on our current
operating platform of developing and delivering Instructional, Athletic and Competitive Roller
Derby Leagues, training seminars and empowering activities for Women, Men, Co-Ed and Juniors.
Currently, we are teaching skills, fitness and core roller derby techniques through the
City of Seattle Parks and Recreation Department, the City of Bellevue and N. Seattle Community
College in the Seattle market. With adequate funding, this model will be expanded throughout
all markets where OWRD leagues exist.
Our Curriculum is for beginning (no contact), intermediate (light contact) and advanced
AllStar and travel teams are also forming at this time throughout the states were OWRD
leagues exist, to facilite play throughout the circuit, utilizing the USARS rule set,
with the goal of mainstreaming the sport and helping USARS bring Roller Sports to the Olympics.
We are currently seeking initial funding of $175,000 in our home market, Seattle, so as
to fund, secure and staff a dedicated OneWorld Roller Derby facility where our instructional
courses may be taught and our scrimmages, games and practices may be held. This facility
would need to be equipped with a flat and banked track, along with locker rooms, safety
equipment, lighting and spaces for all league related activities. This will also create
employment opportunities in the local markets where these facilities are opened and maintained.
Donna Kay; CEO and founder of OWRD is an eight year veteran of the sport of modern competitive
roller derby (her avocation) and is striving to make a difference for people and the sport
of roller derby overall by implementing leagues in Western Washington and beyond that are
accessible to any individual wishing to experience the many benefits that participation brings.
Her successful battle with breast cancer throughout 2012 and 2013, with two consecutive mastectomies;
has only increased her determination to make a difference in the sport sooner, rather than
later by inspiring others to participate in being active regardless of their circumstance.
In addition, joining a roller derby league at age 48 and carrying it through to the age
of (now) 56 has created a human interest element and fans across the globe following the story.
Donna initially skated in her spare time while also raising her special needs son, now 13
years old.
We are able to offer a variety of rewards for contributions, from player trading cards
to season tickets (in your home market, if an OWRD league exists in your local area),
t-shirts and other OWRD branded merchandise, based on contribution level. We are also actively
developing strategic partnerships and sponsorship relationships with foundations, personal and
corporate donors throughout our operating portfolio.
We're so excited about the future, and we'd appreciate your helping us spread the word!
OneWorld and what we're doing in our communities and skaters lives is amazing and truly rewarding.
Look at our skater testimonials and feedback on our Facebook page, and you'll see just
how incredible OWRD is and what we're doing, not only for the sport, but for the people
who make up our leagues. Help us share the Derby Love by liking, tweeting, following
and sharing! :)
