Bobcats are a species that seem to be adapting well to urban environments.
Shelter can be found all over the place in areas such as parks, green belts, and areas
adjacent to water. Water is rarely an issue for wildlife in an
urban environment; in addition, food is also relatively abundant in these areas.
As for food, bobcats need approximately 1 rabbit or 8 mice per day to survive. Being
that bobcats are often located near water, in urban areas, they also tend to prey on
ducks and other water birds. However small domestic animals are rarely
a part of a bobcat's diet. Texas bobcats typically weigh between 12 and
20 pounds. This is an unusually large male that happens to weigh about 30 pounds and
an average sized female that weighs about 14.
If you have any further questions about urban bobcats, please contact the Texas parks and
wildlife department.
