Amanda Gore: And the whole world has changed in the way people are
booking speakers. So, you know, when you go to Google and you
Google something and you get the option of a written thing or a
video thing, which do you go for? The video, because we are all
so tuned into TV.
The single most important thing in life is how you feel about
yourself. You know, people are 80% emotional and 20% rational.
There was a professor of psychiatry at the University of John
[Geraldine] and he said 'Life is not about feeling good. Life is
about being good at feeling. ' Life is not about feeling good,
life is about being good at feeling.
How difficult it is for a male/female relationship and any other
one I suspect to actually communicate at a feeling level when
you're listening to somebody for the feelings behind the words.
But these are key things and when we are conscious that we don't
really listen well, like we think we listen well when we seem to
go mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm' and the complete [volley] of
return to the person. But we're not listening. What we're
listening for is the gap in the other person's conversation so
we can say what we've already formulated we wanted to say.
And listening is probably the single most important thing you
can do for your relationships. If you take nothing else away
from my presentation except this stuff about the feelings and
all the other things I've said, take this away; that at all
times you have to try to be open and present and interested in
understanding both yourself and the person in front of you. If
you take nothing else away except all the other things I've
said, make sure you take away the importance of gratitude
because truly it will change your life. Be grateful for
everything that happens to you. It's all there for a reason.
