\b BY: NICHOLE CARTMELL \b0 \uc0舲 舲 There have been more
than 40 cases of suicides since 2003 involving cyberbullying in the United States, United
Kingdom, Australia and Canada. And this number continues to grow.舲 舲 But a Canadian
study, released Friday, says these suicides are rarely linked to being harassed online.
According to those researchers, most of the victims were also bullied in school and many
suffered from mental illness, including depression. {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2012/10/19/cyberbullying-suicide-study.html"}}{\fldrslt

\b "Although cyberbullying is a new and fairly awful modern manifestation of bullying \'85
it is not a cause of suicide. It's only one factor among many \'85 People who are cyberbullied
have, for the most part, been bullied in more traditional manners as well."
\b0 \uc0舲 舲 The release of the study follows cyberbullyings returned to international
focus, after the suicide of 15-year-old Canadian Amanda Todd.舲 舲 {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK

the premier of British Columbia to issue a stern warning against bullying. She took her
own life last week after posting a video on YouTube detailing how she had been tormented
by bullying online and struggling with depression. Her video has more than 5,000 views.\uc0舲

\b 78 percent \b0 of adolescents who committed suicide were
bullied both at school and online, while only \b 17 percent
\b0 were targeted online only.\uc0舲 舲 The study also found that social media was
used in nearly half of the suicide cases. Of the websites, Facebook topped the list
as the site used most often.\ }
