personal oxley thanks to journey forgive me the n dot t_ o_ come here today in
again to speak to
uh... to you guys
about a topic that's obviously very important i think you're in the state of
arkansas and that he is
dealing with herbicide resistant weeds
if you've been in the state for any time i think over the last two or three years
you've seen feels of such as the s_ and i'm gonna talk a little bit about this
deal will later on the presentation
obviously they were nice we're going to focus on herbicide resistance
wanna start off by kinda setting the
the framework i think from a global
perspective in terms of herbicide resistant legion
basically what i have here this is the number of resistant
herbicide resistant lead bout heights globally
in here's the
time on the home x-axis
and basically what we say he is if we take a look
not teenage inca late seventies nineteen eighty and we'd look thru two thousand
twelve
we see that each year were losing more and more herbicides
and fortunately this is increasing in a linear
fashion and basically it's not calling off here on the upper renyan
as of today i will be in this morning took a look at the website
there's three hundred in ninety three
herbicide resistant but we'd bout heights globally
now why is it important to us sitting here in arkansas
well the reason that's important to us he has
once we lose the herbicide
we're not going to get going to ever be able to affectively use that herbicide
d_n_
on that we did subah persistence
i want you to think back to
think back to the mid nineties
the mid nineties
was the use of pursuit
sector
in terms of soybean we controlled
we had some major issues in the mid nineties and that was a less resistance
and as a result of a less resistance we widely
and rapidly adopted
the caucusing resist a technology
today
we still have a less resistant ably
when we go out and try to use not talk a little bit that about this unfunded few
minutes but when we go out we'd use in a less herbicide today
for the most part they're not effective
in terms of pig weed control
so once we lose our herbicide were not going to ever be able to effectively use
an herbicide d_n_ on that particular weeded unfortunetly
there's not any new herbicides that are coming out till you're over the next
five to seven years you will not see
i knew you herbicide mode of action
so obviously today again the focus of much talk is going to be best management
practices you may see 'em referred to as times as being in peace
it is best management practices again or
obviously dealing with herbicide resistant weeds
and i think it all begins
bus being able to identify our into me
and when i say identify the enemy basically understanding what weeds in
your field
are most troublesome is well i asked
which we'd are actually going to be resist a pro
if we take to the card
think about the weeds
that exist in the field
if you look at appeal today jail you're going to find about twenty-five took
party different weed species and all feels
twenty five to thirty weeks
but all of those only about three of those
would be what we would consider highly important weeds driver weeds
and some of those are more resistant prone than others i think it's obvious
to us
emory appeared we'd
is obviously a driver wheat is resistant prone barnyard grass is away this
resistant prone a driver with a lot of feels
jason weeds that are resist a pro morning glories
uh... anyone knows this today but
there are absolutely no
herbicide resistant morning glories has ever been document that we have some
that's difficult to control with a lot this latest due to tolerance
but that is a way to give it doesn't show a tendency to evolve resistance
we've got to understand
again are targeted past
i've got ten p_m_ pays i want to share with you first we've got a understand
the biology of the week that we're dealing with windows itamar i want you
to take your your we
barnyard grass palmer emory if whatever we need not be windows itamar if we
don't understand when it's going to emerge is going to be very challenging
to manage that we
over an entire growing season
how quickly does it grow obviously this is extremely important in terms of
timing posting markets herbicides
when does it flower
if we're gonna prevents a production we got to understand when it goes
reproductive
how quickly does it produced bobble c
i was in appeal which up far here i guess is probably a couple of months ago
chuck had a feel
that he had actually read ideas through
twenty eight days prior to me being in the field
and we had big we'd see that were just beginning piggly plans ever just
beginning to produce a
these plants that are merging lately here
again four to five weeks you're gonna be producing bobble c very importantly for
trying to get seed production
how long does it flowers we're gonna prevents the production how's the stuff
dispersed
obviously four suite is one is going to be win disbursed
a lot of these waves were moving around with equipment all talk a little bit
about that later
but we really need to understand how we're moving these these weeds
how much seed production occurs
how persistent is a state missiles see bank and i think lastly i think this
really ties it all together
what has the weakness
of the week that we're dealing with
what's the weakness of palmer hammering out
and i'm asking you guys was the witness a palmer area
it's a very small city
it's somewhat susceptible to kill ages specially detailees because it's a small
city
also for the most part it does not org
a highly persistent soul citibank suffer the most part we can bring that still
see bank down
bop programs such as they grow tolerance
and i think we're all pretty much aware of that concept
secondly let's start clean stay clean
the days of planning in the weeds and hoping to control those with our post
emerges program those days are over
there's got to be no weeds at planning is going to reduce the selection
pressure despite
placed our post emerges herbicides
are parcel out of the fiesta ears
are residual herbicides
i don't understand why someone in the state of arkansas today would plant
soybean and not have a residual herbicide down it planning
it just does not make sense to me
it's what's going to remove
the selection pressure on a posting murders herbicides and also has the
latest successful sorting production system
in general
we need to apply i_e_ herbicide
every two weeks
uh... i've done numerous studies over the past two years in a bob's been some
can sniff it was here his guns has done so on
when we look over all of these trials for the most part
will start seeing residual herbicides breaking fourteen to twenty one days and
i'll say it times we may see one taken take us out to four weeks or two five
weeks but in general
fourteen twenty one days you will start seeing these residual herbicides break
if i'm going to say over to start start breaking it twenty one days i cannot
wait until twenty one days to start trying to time
that next application i've got to overlay these residuals
i have to tell
this on a and i am not going to name the applicator but this also is a prime
example in the hardest for a season is
give vocal
to schedule spray applications custom spray applications
i had arrived steal this past year that needed to be spray i called an
applicator applicator told me he would take care of it
how leptin i came back
came back seven days later
and that deal was not right
i call the applicator nasa thought you were gonna spray the field
he said i will spray the field
he citizen be another two days before mike it there
and folks as nine days to get sprayed it nine days and i'm not saying this common
but if we got residual herbicides out there that are breaking
we've got to make that application in a timely manner we got to overlay these
residual herbicides
we're dealing with a we'd at least from a plumber interest and for the weed that
grows two inches a day
obviously it's not going away don't post emergence herbicides and as i said
earlier
classics that per pursuit harmony g_t_e_ those are all a less herbicides
they're not an effective option
for the most part for the control of pottery maria
regardless of whether we're talking palmer emory if they were talking some
of these other weeks the barnyard grass we've done research to show that for the
most part
of that many of the week that we're dealing with a gun exhibits these along
the markets and therefore ki and we've got to over ladies residual herbicides
ascended this lattices actually thought a lot to a clump
aboard from my colleague over into the c_e_o_ doctor larry steckel
uh... this is prefixes are actually to roll plots that were sprayed prefix was
put down three that's a basically a mixture of reflex in dual
came back with liberty award at the re-educate we
show audience how many of you like that
pretty good pretty clean brains
pretty calling danes
i don't care for it
you say you
why do you not care for that
i don't care for the treatment you're not there's a couple of issues
the main issue right here is we didn't overlay i'd just say over light residual
herbicides up got prefix that went out priya merchants
very good herbicide
very good herbicide a rather actually see a post emerges but i'm not going to
get into the discussion of that at this point
but we put up re-emergence we waited until it broke because we had one two
three eight piggly liberty came you know what the re-educate wait my residual
herbicide is broken
what kind of residual control is liberty going to a
supply
hetzel ugly none
next time it rains was going to happen in this field
scott attorney indicated we
so then what am i going to do
spray it will liberty again
two weeks later what am i going to do
spray it will liberty again does everyone say the problem here
the problem right here
years we're not overlaying residual herbicides i've got to have a residual
herbicide in the tank with liberty
to takes a little selection pressure off the liberty impervious these multiple
applications of the same herbicide
we gotta be scouting soon after planning
and i said basically we've got to be scouting to confirm that the residual
hamper beside has not broken
and again in order to make that timely application the
fact that actually it also has been activated i kill people
sprite dark
because at the end of the day
chances argued that we did that feel that if you wait do you have we'd
emergence is going to be very difficult to control a lot of the sweets
insulating and also it's true resistance to the post emergence herbicides
you've got to be able to get a possible we'd today's it just going out spring
roundup in in going to the house those days are over
applied the appropriate residual product post emerges
remember control is a function a sizable margin a plant the more difficulty is
going to be to control those weeds
and we've got to identify non performance issues early
and uh... i place up this photo here
these are actually palmer emory implants if you go take a closer look at these
these are six
palmer ever have plans
four to six late
how do i control these escapes around every soybean and folks i'll take it
back office like resistance
how to lock control those
i've got one option
and that's flex star
and actually if you look at the plextor label the largest pig blida plextor will
control is a six late piggly
so about wait another day here
i have absolutely no auction
for controlling these weeds in round o'grady sorting
we've got a useful use rates
the days of going out and using these reduce rates roar if you look at the end
people before i would challenge anyone to find a reduced rate recommendation in
the in people we four
we don't tremendous amount of work i'm not gonna share a lot of this week today
have given another talks
um... the david time constraints of i'm not going to get into the research but
we've done tremendous amount of work that shows reduce rates
contributor herbicide resistance there's several ways it you can get reduce rates
sprained gets covered began suites were essentially you're not able to get good
spray coverage can result in reduce rates
most brave audience can result in reduced rates
springs weeds that are larger than normal label or essentially reduce right
and then also water quality can influence
the uh... actual rate that is seen by the plant
was so often you know you're a uses the ph increases of the spray solution the
solubility of the herbicide increases meeting is more readily available to the
plane
as ph decreases on this for a solution
does salted algeria's are not really available days would be the salt until
you re israel is herbicides
mckinney's such as new path would be a rice herbicide pursuit insulating
arrive up saturday as the ph decreases the solubility of these increase of
twenty s
spray solution can impact
essentially whether we apply alright or not to be swedes
i come back to this field in
a promise a gave a talk last week to farm bureau promise not to to try to
duplicate that talk but i did have this slide in there in this is what i think
really drives home the point in terms of of reduce rates i've got to tell this us
all this
accepted this photo in two thousand levin uh... i'm aware of at least who
feels in the state that i was the end it
uh...
i cleaned out for the fact that this happened this is actually uh...
applications
five applications of reflex or flexed or
grow our way now he sprayed
didn't kill pygmy
well rather than losing is being crop
he started spraying replay replace did not work mate bob applications you see
this application late in the year
folks this is a perscription
a prescription for loop lol loss of the p_p_o_ herbicides
that's another reason again we've got to make peace timely applications in
incorporate these residual herbicides into these systems
i don't know if anyone is here from if you say that i will take only a thin
city i think for for second
and he comes back to reduce rates of
uh... in deficit is not the only one that has this has the shishir looked at
servo labels yesterday and i just upholding a party incipient easy
if you talk to have to say they're going to recommend a parking into easy
for the management residual management of cooper say resistor palmer maria if
you go to their label actually we have to their label it says was this that's
management is on the first for secretary to the label
s_a_s_ her side should be used in conjunction with the resistance
management strategies in that area
that's great
i'm here talking about resistance management so we're good reviews the
resistance management tactics and i'm covering today and then they go on the
state did not use less than the recommended label rates
alone
or intake mixtures
do not use reduce rates of the techniques partner so it could have put
something in the tank with it usable rate and make sure that whatever's in
the tank essentially
everything is out of poor use rate
to reduce the risk of resistance
you drop down father in their labeling you get to the actual application
standpoint for a primer does application it comes in and it's a s
for a cardigan teasing herbicide
application rates referred to
rate table number one if you want to use a standard alright
if you want to use a reduced rate
goto table number ten
hold our own
about what you said on the earlier pledges to use for use rates
folks i've got a problem with the s_ and this is not only have to say problem
there's numerous companies out there
that are promoting
they're promoting
paper premix products for resistance management and they're recommending
reduce rates
and i'm gonna go farther and look at the label
so if you look at the libel actually
of authority enthusiasm accommodation of spartan
and attribution and here's the sole pictures own right there's two
components there some pictures all here's the use rates of one x right
and that should be used in this be the one x_-rated these herbicides normally
in soybean
if it up to the authorities empties relabel it tells me for poor use rate
use fourteen to sixteen ounces of silt loam soul
sixteen ounces you say what the breakout he is
that is less than a one x rated meant to be used in
when it gets better
because they recommend now if i want to just suppressed the weeds but not
control them
used eight to ten ounces that yeltsin is
is point al nine pounds of salt pitcher zone and point one pounds of the
referred you back to the top of it the one x radius
folks that's a prescription for resistance resistance to soft that
result
resistance tumultuous are meant to be using imposes a prescription for
resistance to block the site in anything else op hollow this system we have we
have got to get away from these reduce rate recommendations
i'll show you here's a slide this is the work that we did last year again it's
just kind of summarizing
these are available pretty mixes and some of the recommendations are being
made but companies
canopy four ounces dupont locks to recommend four ounces i've had some
conversations with him yesterday about the iss
look at the met your beautiful right point one sixty pounds is is in in
canopy
look at a party in sees a we've already spoken about that you can even get lower
rates
boundary at thirty three and a half ounces you're pretty close to one x_-ray
here is not that bad
because actually we could be point three seven five on the silt loam soul
but here send core of this running to struggle sent four
at uh... two-thirds of the premise of half a pound of active
we can use that only still also located we know which brownies are tolerant
i will tell you the s
we get a job
variety screening program this past year and i don't know if jeremy has it up on
the website yet or not it is about three hundred three hundred fifty varieties it
should be they're not up yet they should appear rather quickly
and the ones that we screening bound to be tolerant
on treatment tribution
here are some other data that this will be in this is actually average across
two different size that we had this past growing season four out of the canopy
you can see
three weeks after treatment this is what it did for palmer emory control about
seventy three percent
look at the korean iran component this is what i hear on be half here's what
the meant to be is a component be it again
load use right submit reviews in and here's a full radha mitchell bouston
folks were selecting for resistance with these reduce rates
we got to use multiple affected modes of action some of you to see me talk across
up black out really want to use this slide
and when i say affected modes of action
i'm talking at that gate modes of action on those two or three buoyed cells
resistant what won't weeds that we're targeting
may coming out the sprang a grass herbicide
if i were to spray grass herbicide into a four day missus citing a burn down
program aggressor beside the ten forty
that's two modes of action exactly what that could modes of action against the
week that i'm targeting no it's not that's only one mode of action i make
the point right here
dialer if we put battle rap re-emergence in roundup ready soybeans are resistant
to go out this that won't have to offer save resist a pig we do know
i've got a lot to say it was just a pig wait now put out by our
and i come back what blackstar plus
roundup
how many affected modes of action to a head out there for the controllable
opposite resist the piggly
joining us if you think i have to read
i've got three products out there do you think i have to read affected modes of
action for the control of opposite resistor piggly
raise your hand
do i have two modes of action
two modes of action
do i have one mode of action out there
okay so two-thirds of this
didn't raise ur opinion
leptin works
dialer is a very effective mode of action on paid we
black stars a very affected mode of action the problem he has folks if you
say me talk a lot to talk about group numbers this is in the empty forty four
these are both reporting herbicides there exactly
the same mode of action so i've got one mode of action there
how effective is go out the site congo office eight resistor palmer maria
it's not
having loads of action to a head and that the other control piggly
one at saic
and that's why i come back and i thought the point here
these are active modes of action
but that to be kept that give all the way he said i'm targeting i can't just
say i've got two modes of action in the feel like a care less than i have two
modes of action in the field i've got to have multiple modes of action targeting
these weeks
and i say your tank mixtures sequential applications are ways obviously that i
can achieve these
rotation of herbicide resistant trait
hard to resist that's evolving is another way i can do the s
in obviously we've got roundup today we got liberty they tell me backing of the
trip ortiz come in h p p_d_'s coming up not going to get into that debate today
but with that being said he'd once you lose eight right
i can no longer rotate that trait effectively if argues that trade up if i
use the roundup trade-up at that point are no longer have the option of
rotating roundup in liberty
was to try to go nah nah largely in the state of arkansas this traders don't
from a co-op to save resistor palmer maria standpoint
we gotta emphasize cultural mechanical management and i got there well of
a wide sweeper options here
village seeding rates wrote we ends
we're doing a tremendous amount of work in the s
anything that we can do
that promotes rapid crop canopy formation is going to help us from a
resistance management standpoint because it's gonna minimize
the emergence of these weeks
here some work that we did this is own plop a slight resistor palmer a maria
and these are the number of plans that emerged insulating
when we had a early soybean production system we plan b soybeans in uh...
early to mid april
foresees a soybean system we planted in may
also use a sorting system but we had a rock cover crop of this would be our
scheduled standard double crops system with we
and what we're looking at here
yela bar is absolutely no fault village
andy white bar is actually a one-time
we didn't get use it for two years as a one time
used album bulb or plowing folks look regardless of the production system and
ian
basically what it allowed me to develop a two c reset the clock
but it reduced the selection pressure on the other herbicides as can be used in
the bill
because the numbers
the number of pig weed that emerged
declined substantially actually in most of these cases we're talking about a
kenyan
two twelve all reduction in the emergence of people we
just from a one-time use of the mobo reply out
and then also we can say the bid at the end of the end of the cover crop the
benefit of the double-crossed system working we've got the we
uh... residue on the sole surface
there's a lot we can do from a agra nomic standpoint that could help us with
resistance management
here's a showing you this is actually a photocopy to sail gave me a couple of
years ago to to use in looking at thirty eight it's rose in looking at nineteen h
rose
and we've got a tremendous amount of work over prod the last august eighteen
years now
showing that we'd emerges often ceases
once we get cheap ninety percent lot interception
ninety percent live in a sense of the gulf should be
yet but she did not end present lot interception as soon as possible when
you're taking selection pressure off your herbicides here some work that we
did this past growing season just showing you while you're taking
selection pressure off your herbicides
here's a drill seated so weddings and what we say yes
everyday distorted picture is fluctuating about twenty degrees
all of a sudden prop canopy formation occurs you don't get this daily
fluctuation in seoul temperature the weeds
we'll not emerge folks that's a very affective resistance management strategy
we gotta prevents seed production
here's a photo i think probably this is one that doctor scott took uh... in the
first field in mississippi county
that uh... where we had go out to save resist the palmer emory what was
interesting is when i first saw this field
there's obviously papa so it was just a pig we hereby folks it just wasn't
overgrown with lots of state resistor palmer emery
economic thresholds would have told you allow those weeks to go to see
there's not enough for us to go out there and wart
removing these weak but i will tell you that you cannot make thresholds do not
apply when it comes to resist its management
also these plants
there's been some work done in the conducted in the midwest on some similar
on a similar which showing that about seven to ten days after he goes
reproductive we have bobble seed production
here some worked out that over the past couple of years nexus and that that i
just put together
yesterday at all the trial that i've got a large large quattro about a cousin
looking at palmer reimer f_b_i_ city
as affected but we'd management program
and what we say here this is actually in roundup ready soybeans were used upping
the roundup
here is i have a
priya marcus herbicide followed by a
prefix which is going to be a residual imposed emerges product in combination
with roundup followed the roundup
if your liberty lake soybeans with the same program
and basically what we what we saw here was
obviously
glop a slave resistor palmer emory if we didn't do a whole lot here
uh... we had over sixty thousand olympic weeks per acre in these plots
uh... here we had twenty two thousand
a residual herbicides this year
folks it was a dry here is a rope your own residual herbicides obviously
there's some value to the residual herbicide lookit
twenty two thousand versus sixty thousand
but here's the living link system labeling system we have urged a hundred
and forty-one paid we park baker
and i will tell you these piggly emerged late in the year and they were extremely
small animal show you evidence of that uh... almanacs lod
this is actually seed production per plant
in this field
sixteen thousand seat per plant
thirteen thousand these plants here that emerged
rock prior to harvest
produced mandz lead
per plant these plans for about
four inches we sing these four eight-six h_p_ tweed
nine sleeper plans what they averaged
now if you go back and look at this on a per acre basis
this program here we had two hundred and forty seven million seed per acre
produced
seventy eight million sleeper acre
and we had three hundred and seventeen c dot it's a million c dot insight
thousand c
we get three hundred and seventeen c per acre produced in this program
they came here re-used we've got to park the etsy production we've got too many
to seoul city bank
this right here is a system were i'm managing the schools the back
obviously we've seen some of these photos this is one
uh... obviously best cotton but we did some survey work in two thousand eleven
thirteen percent of soybean crop in two thousand levin was the end we did here
is the cost twenty six dollars eighteen cents per acre
we had some growers standing in a comma hundred dollars per acre
i didn't do a survey this year but i can assure you this number right here this
past growing season probably double
i think we're now somewhere in
on the neighborhood of twenty five percent of ursula bean crops
i'm had slump
means *** removal in it
obviously did you try to prevent seed production
two thousand levin that cost us almost eleven million dollars
so what happens if we allow that one plant to the state this is the work that
idea back in cotton it's been several years ago now but again i want to drive
home the point here
while we've got a prevents seed production
one year after we allowed one play at the state this is what the feel look
lock onto some cotton field but i would argue plus edsel weddings in there
it would look no different
if i'd spread it around a two years later this is what it looks like i had
one plant near that survived you can see the patch you can see also see the tail
of the year
where were spread in the u_s_ and you can see these plants along the adjacent
edges of this bill
three years later that's a cocktail folks that we could not find a bowl of
hot me in because of a lot to save resistor palmer emery
four years earlier i had one plant that policy at least three years from the
time it took this photo three years and tom attempt at photo i had one point the
state-controlled
we've got a pretty appealed the field movement of the s
anup whether i'm talking to combine picker mo or
we've got to prepare group and i'll tell you guys are in south arkansas
south arkansas you've got to office eight resistor palmer ever if i can
assure you one thing you don't have it locked those guys do
central arkansas in northeast arkansas
i definitely would try to minimize
equipment coming or mouth for
where there's been blocked the state resistor palmer a maria
here's actually
the station there in the area
this is robert casey a roadside right adjacent to the station is everyone
recognized that week
palmer amarin
folks if we're not managing palmer emory up along the margins of our feels
whereas all that palmer emory up going
is going right back at the end of this field
o_j_ entrance cottonseed hulls i tell people even poultry litter i'd be leery
of of spurting culture literal ma form
i've seen a tremendous amount of people we growing adjacent to piles
a poacher litter
obviously again term rose bits bytes irrigation canals we've got to manage
this week
here some work that week we
is initiated this past year
they're actually labeled options
labeled options for weed management own *** and i'm just showing you some of
them here
florida his action the product rate it's also so north section labeled its own
oral ditches
i think he wants a teeny associates faced such a short cotton understands
dot your honor diary x
understand that's not a soybean herbicide but eight years label
for weed control on beaches
and we're going to look at these over the next few years trying to understand
which herbicides that we can use to control some of the swedes
with out
completely corroding our ditch banks
basically establishing a d s
uh... map of grass we want to try to establish gets mad at grass on these
uh... ditch banks
uh... night
managed with the department
host parties here's a strangely
again go on
shaft plant material coming out the back of a combat
here's a collegue this ever fall
someone will call me up
insight
all of a sudden realize i've got lots of savers esta palmer maria palm up or
i've got it on a hundred acres on pharma pals anchors
what should i do
i tell you what you're going to do you gotta run this through the combine
and actually we did some work this past growing cities we looked at several
feels
across the state of arkansas
in nineteen ninety receipient
ninety nine percent of acting we'd see that is or that
plant
is going to come into that combine
so actually what we're interested in doing what we're trying to do now is is
there anyway we can destroy
that material as it's coming through the combine a residues out the back of the
combine
here's actual work we did this past year at at kaiser
these are actually shoots i had a grad student make these these are metal
sheets
we are adhered those just basically uh... this is metal to being we placed
on our combine
we disengage the straw sprinter in you see it as the plant material the chap is
coming out the back of a combat is placing in a very narrow
here's a swamp that we cut it jason to a_b_c_ had spread the
pig we'd see to spread the chap
all the pig we seek for the most part will be in this narrowband
if we baroness bangin here's the question we happy if we burn this bangin
really killed the piggly
i can tell you for a fact
we've done some of this work for the last couple of years
when you come back implants or the next year's qua interesting about it a you
know what you need it we here because you do
but you have today
dairy
dance population a pig lead in this narrow band here if you don't bernie
so that's the work that we're doing also
our colleagues in australia been working with the embed got something they've
developed all the herrington c destroy your party in the cn of the chap mature
allege that comes through here it grants the chaff
uh... we're trying to worked with him in terms of understanding if granting this
pig meat is going to be
uh... affected we collected some samples this past year were hoping to take those
up to the midwest and
a body weight goes in
i'm in the process of working with some guys up there saying what we can
find out with a implement or papers from a very some of these
uh... lastly
babbar sapan approached with focus on the sole state bank i think the key
here's diverse city
folks if you're doing something that it works this year i would try something a
little bit different next year
the problem that we have two office eight resistor ways today is because we
kept using the opposite followed by colostate polytical at the st paul about
lots a
there was absolutely
noda bursting in the system
and then secondly again we've got to focus on the souls they died
the soil seed bank is the key to our long-term success and i just need to do
i mean there is no response shins
neighbors options that we cannot develop in terms of systems we can develop in
terms of adding diversity
and i want to look at these
here's actually of field i got out this is that this is a copy of the soybean
would be no different hideout and actually look at this field s just this
past year accounted seventy four points per square foot
that's three point two billion plants per acre
let's say that i put liberty in this field for any purpose side in this field
in the chance of resistance is one
in one billion plants one in one big implants naturally has the traits
for resistance
not the point
mup point here folks he is
if we're not proactive and we go into systems like this we start putting
liberty we start putting residual herbicides in the system's likeliest
we're going to break the systems we've got to manage the sole state bank
if not
we're gonna quickly begin to lose herbicides
about lady with i'll sit down yesterday and pop only few with with these
thoughts here
i've heard these year after year after year number artist
categorize these this fallacies
regarding resistance management
best management practices gipper
depending on whether i have or do not have a resistant we i have growers are
polly or they'll give a presentation of sadat
appreciate your thoughts but
i don't have that we
what strategies can you give me
the strategies folks the strategies are the same whether i have a bruise but i
have a co-op herbicide resistant we or i don't
the difference in years
the difference is the management program and the cost of that program
what you have
resistance but the overall strategies
are going to be very similar
herbicides along to solve a weight problem
all on needs another mode of action just bring the another mode of action and
this is over
at the end of the day that's not going to solve our problems obviously i would
like to see another mode of action
but that's not
going arya dust of herbicide resistant weeds
of article a strike at this point two modes of actions and the fact of
resistance major program unfortunately it's not
because a lot of times
these modes of action
are not truly effective on the weeds
that worked hard and they're not effective against the key in the clock
to save resist a palmer emery
rotating soybean with porter roscoe is going to keep me from having herbicide
resistance folks
rotations there's obviously value two rotations from a resistance in asia
standpoint it's not going to solve the problem once i have a resist away dot to
get rid of it
and effectively is that her beside me and i will tell you that is not the case
at all once you have recessed as we still have a less resistance today
from the mid nineties and we haven't used a less herbicides on some of these
feels for fifteen twenty years now you will continue to hang out
herbicide resistance
allowing a few ways to state control eight years okay
applicable already illustrated that is not the case
i don't need to worry about managing weeds that are in the field
at the end the day they are going to impact my bottom line
yes they will impact your bottom line is again
those we'd see continue to move in that field we continue to lose
herbicides
ways that emerged after an early harvest
our concern
they will only produce a few weeks seat at the end the day they're not going to
impact my production system folks we have individuals
that are growing early planet soybeans in arkansas salsa where they have to
selecting field this past year we were forest in late august that was growing
up lately
by the end of the year i can guarantee you that will impact
your management program
for two thousand thirteen
and lastly
i hear this a lot of times when i go north on the start that start talking to
individuals in the midwest another strange that we will not grow here
it's too hot to cold is to track is to weigh ed
these we'd get a resistor perot prone have a tremendous amount of genetic com
plasticity
uh... adept quite readily for production systems and with bad idea i'd like to
thank the carcass also will be promotion board for again their continual support
of weed management researcher in the state of arkansas and well with that i
know open for questions
