hey I'm here %uh would be to your ***
last time I saw you look like a little boy
thought the services lovely given
him nobody talk about the good stuff
hello welcome to what the flick Christie panel on the
you're playing a little bit of catch-up with August Osage County which stars
every important actor
know him and I and please take it away okay so it's based on tracing letters
Tony and Pulitzer prize-winning play it's about a
dysfunctional Oklahoma family above intellectuals but they
act like crazy people a man who get together after the disappearance
love the patriarch played by Chris Cooper our mom pops pills and she's
played by Meryl Streep
our daughters judge Julie Ann Nicholson
Hampshire Shepherd is a better ok sorry Chris who replaces the ideal sorry
september 30
have been yes right okay it's all good everybody's as they are moving to
take a look you she take pills *** buy
it was annexed that's tangible she smuggled
Obama targeted and her I more research me
no male where you livin now thank upon
you marmor separated for a is there a younger woman involved
lasting are turned into their Bay mom believes one don't grow more attractive
with
practices agree as they are really a matter of opinion carne de res own just
started to
prove it yourself have pleasant min highfalutin soap opera
they didn't feel very very seriously and it is a guilty plea kinda ***
pleasures
it's weird I mean I you know I dot did you get in the US in the plane now
space three hours long I have been completely cold in
at the end I thought this one pure water and all the tonys like I I didn't
I think what's missing is critical clearly yeah if you assume that this is
two-thirds of the play and we'll ask is not even two hours long I don't think
yes and the intermissions there are three hours long to innovation isolated
on the actions after the
love the play then and and I i just think they're really big things missing
that makes these characters
even moderately credible I don't I don't buy I bought
30 from we do I Chris Cooper not and also
he was the only one really to consistently consistently
show any kind of decent on and
I don't mind that there could be a world in oklahoma intellectuals who are
indecent to each other on a consistent basis but then they have to
there has to be some acknowledgement that like i mean that there were these
fights between Arab Street every good because they cannot be good these are
all good actors giving good performances but
deputies arguments with with Meryl Streep in Julie Roberts would argue
whether
and then somebody would say you know you guys just gotta stop fighting or can we
all just
in like year of treatment seemed mad like extremely well
it wasn't immediately reentering was like the mainstream media covering you
know
up a global warming the other well a box is no need I say hotel
but now looks good and the bad but I like these great things for you
TIAA which is the problem stop pretending otherwise an arrow
I think there was probably in more length more
subtlety witness to these people yeah would have added credibility on the
street labor people disparagingly compare this to Mama's family. I can't
say they're wrong I'm more
this is kinda cartoony at times I thought that stream Ann Roberts both
were not dialed back at all by the director John Wells and so
they just they felt like there at 11 the whole time yes
and then they can be fun like it you know I know I know the whole movie is
work barber who is no the best babe posing yes well yeah
me can't hear the word alleges that can is getting
wallowing in the lot and don't let anyone tell the guilty pleasure yeah I
was never bored
but this morning I was entertained by but there are times I felt like I was
being entertained for the wrong reasons like
but it was that they can be accidentally made a camp
classic out of this or a serious point members are to matter to be
I think so yeah just took office or abroad in cartoonish I because I always
love Margo Martindale
know if she's great and she she has a real Sourav Center
get ready for an OK she actually other also loved you know
an actual center and then Chris Cooper I agree yeah
julia Louis is terrific bennett come back
right now name yeah I'd is it better to cover batch
has scenes on the cutting room floor cuz I can't imagine that he would sign on
for this
with so little to do well he is sort of one no
rate me he dismissed as well as he hit little
Tom little bit over a little whatever I'll
Charlie he doesn't see it is rather than being talked about character
right in hand and he is just that the whole time and he's made to seem like a
a bit about I don't know a savior to them all because he is the purest apart
in here right now without a win for beginning in the beginning to thinking
that he
they had some mental issue he does alright then did he not letting out a
little
a little no I would buy it now I don't know why i shouldn't why I just got a
court
but he's not gay but the beginning I was the first time in this in this company
he makes everything I do not like shrieking and
area yeah I kinda fragile and kinda damaged and there's something a little
off with him perhaps
the impression I got here and they want to go sorry for him
I can I do there with a good he got much to do
you McGregor oh yeah he always and always when he's playing in american
character
like scripts his personality away you know I remember remember a Amelia that
awful Amelia Earhart movie with the
Hilary Swank but except for arm
I love you Phillip Morris I think every movie were you McGregor plays American
like men who stare at goats you know
he just you forget that he's even in it because he's so that a non-entity
speaking occurring for the polly was more to him or to his collector
curricular like they were really
yeah I think I think somebody tell me that the than the play you get me wrong
I wonder if i mean i think is more the play I don't know whether
like immediate you gonna do the movie thing to do the play is a million and do
the play
right managers maybe our other production history into yet maybe
there's a bunch done what I feel like this was
hey let's turn this into a movie and we'll take some stuff out and will
probably grow couple other things
one thing I will say about turning this promote from theater
to the screen they they don't aggressively open it up to me most in
the movie takes place inside the house
but I think you're going to do that then make the house more I love this
claustrophobic confines it is because darker those people certainly
act like it is 1i me they've all suffered there you know the
they've all be no had to deal with terrible things there
I'm yet to some extent but I kinda I kept thinking
left-wing pre-contract a splash because not only the other two Tracy let movies
which were terrific bar
killer Joe arm but he also if you go back and look at something like the
birthday party or boys in the band
he films a play and just record
just Titans at getting the wrong with you through what minimum breathing on
each other and
you know I think more that might have benefited the story might have
explain to the extreme behavior that we get N is not and you're right there's
now a
tend to which you feel that tension in the house I'm not sure that we do I
think there's a close knit on a darkness and there's
secrets that are being held there but I don't I didn't feel like on the edge of
my seat ends like what's going to happen with these people
when all their secrets lettin I you know
there's a big revealing this and and and the
like I just didn't care I didn't even yeah
year like I'll likely and now whatever why are you not care
because I didn't care about these people had they didn't believe them and and if
you're going to have a movie with nine
really I'm likable people in it you know maybe was only 72 percent tax Korea but
well as many as 12 yeah well right where most of their cattle is not a good
software sector
more per show the cash hurry loathsome 100 percent of the time in a long time
seems like you might be fun to hang out with
its gonna shut and now it's got a whole yeah
you know that drunk yes but then you've got to do
something else then you have to there has to be a great
truism about it are you have to identify this as well much my family or thats
or ball we learned something about how
intellectual oklahomans a rather than 20 percent sure you know i i but
something know what I got was like very
well-written fight scenes both people
who do not exist have never adjusted elaborately and there's no universality
to it there's no emotional connection is to show we can be promises
just talk about the fact that male strip keeps getting on the nominations for
this role is just because she shows up and is Meryl Streep
it is a good performance from her cuz I don't think so kinda screechy
Inc and kinda wacky I i think a backseat to no in in in in
admiring her work but boy yet this is not one for better it's not
I think there was an interesting piece a couple years ago somebody wrote the this
we asked what is Meryl Streep work with great directors
you know why she not working with by Scorsese or even like that the hot like
if you look at catherine dinner she works with the hot young
french filmmakers that are like still fairly new with the exciting and
revolutionary in
doing interesting *** and Meryl Streep worked with like
you know the guy who may do you know Devil Wears Prada and the woman who
directed Mamma Mia like did not particularly interesting call makers
and I think it would be into it would be cool to see her challenge herself
and get pushed a little because this is a this me like a performance where
I wonder she in the director spoke you know a little later just let loose in
steamroll everybody and that was the end in NFL
great yeah and manage
in in a way she might be giving a performance that would've worked on the
stage
protecting the back row yes as you know you're in the mezzanine you're gonna get
it all but you know
I just felt like it was too much you know and and Julia Roberts is certainly
playing a different
color than she usually gets to do once cream butter that she was all that great
either
they stay miss they missed any kind something they missed
any cattle layered from the any cattle air so I mean
yeah I thought when Julia Roberts was being shorter
shrill and unpleasant I she was very good at it and there are a couple
moments
but that's all she did now there were a couple moments when she wasn't speaking
that I thought she was pretty good like image there were some
you know that the trouble that she's having intermarriage with Ewan McGregor
late there were some her that she clearly felt like you thought there
something
in there there's more there she doesn't want to be like this but
we never really got that are even know what happened even know what their story
is there's a
serve a seminal i think what's supposed to be a seminal seen were all three
other daughters are
talking to her mother the mother is lucid in that
brief moment but I i just I I got nothing yeah vision
Benjamin Julia Roberts characters turning in the Meryl Streep to travel
together and that's that's an interesting idea and she does play some
interesting facets up that
but the overall those who just it to me if I kept thinking about things like
steel magnolias you know I just these are big broad
southern wacky you know little quip fests and and i just i was thinkin this
is a Pulitzer prize-winning play and I don't
I if this if this thing had started life as this movie and not as that play
it would not be getting the kind of a claim that I that the play got where all
stealing protest the way it was okay so what I remember them things you actually
hi I get I gave it a 6-2
because again never bored you know I hate was but I was
something was going on the I was entertained by even when I was going
what the hell is happening here
here too much of one thing and nothing over anything else
four-point hey I can if I play good yeah I had fun too for maybe the wrong reason
that has some with some big juicy scenes
so again it is that it is flashy and show we are not as important as we would
think it would be
I have a nation-state them baths where the 5.5 is our average is a 61 percent
on the two millimeters so it's been out there for a little bit when wider this
week right
so find it weird out mine in oklahoma so bad day on the body to go since
I if you're not alone gonna be like no go if you have a home to go see it
by
