Dmytro Gnap, journalist of Hromadske.tv: In the hospital they said that the diagnosis
of the head and brain injury is still questionable, and that further medical observations should
be carried out. As per today, there is dipnoous and contused wound of the upper lip and the
hematoma of the right temple.
We have not been yet acknowledged as sufferers, the case has not been qualified other than hooliganism.
Olga Bilyk, Head of Press Service of Ministry of Internal Affairs: As per now the criminal
case was opened (the article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, that is hooliganism).
Investigative actions are being carried out: you colleague is being interviewed for the clarifying all the facts which happened.
Anna Babinets, journalist: Can this be treated as the obstruction of the work of a journalist?
Olga Bilyk: Well, it will be clarified in the investigation that will be carried out:
when all the objective facts will be determined in regards to what has happened. Maybe, the case will be reclassified.
Dmytro Gnap: I have never seen this, even in 2004. There are a lot of people of 'criminal appearance',
with the sportive stature, which have already named by journalists as 'titushky'.
They stood in the columns right on the square of the Mariyinsky Palace. They were numerous.
The part also stood in the park. They were about 4 thousand. We came up to them and started
asking what they were doing there, where they have come from. And we began to penetrate into those columns.
Then, those people surrounded us in the circle. Obviously, there were two of their 'seniors', which told:
"Beat them, take the camera away!".
And they indeed started beating and taking the camera away. Well trained, well organized - they immediately starting execution of the order.
...Run up to the policemen who stood near the Verkhovna Rada (2 or 3 policemen).
We informed them on what happened. We told: "Let's go and do something!" and they (policemen)
agreed. And then we went to the "titushkys" together with these two policemen.
We again went to those 2 persons who gave an order, who took and broke the camera. And they cried:
"Beat 'ments' (informal for policemen) and take the phones!". After that, they began
to beat policemen and to take the phones away.
Journalist: Have you seen how they were beating the policemen?
Dmytro Gnap: I saw when they were thrown down. I did not see how they bit policemen, because
they started beating me... I did not see anything.
Journalist: What about the information that the policemen were beaten as well?
Olga Bilyk: As per now, we do not have objective evidence on this fact. As for today, there
are enough policemen to ensure the public order and security.
Journalist: Mariyinsky Park, 5 pm. Our colleague Dmytro Gnap was beaten exactly in this place.
As we see, all this time 'titushkys' gather here in small groups which then transform into the numerous crowd.
Certain people count them (possibly, reconcile the number of those who came out in the morning and those who have to come back in the evening).
Now, they are gathering close to the Ministry of Health.
