Hey everyone! This is a tutorial for how to play Drive By,
the new Train single, on the ukulele. My wife turned me on into the song and I told her,
"Hey! I'll learn how to play it on the ukulele".
But because the song is so new, it was just released January 2012,
there were no YouTube videos or YouTube tutorials or even
anything online for it. So what I did was I found
a guitar tab site that had the
for chord progression and sort of translated and made my own chord, kinda-of, sheet music.
What I'll do is, down in the descriptions there will be a link so you can download this PDF.
The reason why I'm making this tutorial is because
I learned the ukelele via YouTube tutorials
at I just want kinda give back and since this song hasn't been done yet,
I figured I'll give it a shot. Just wanna say a few things,
along with this tutorial, I'll try sing it and now I've learned this song so that my wife could sing it,
and I do not have a tenor, pop voice so, especially on the course,
I'll be straining, I'll try and go falsetto but if I
break your speakers or make you cringe with disgust
I apologize in advance. So, let's
get started and I'm gonna try and do this so its most efficient.
Go and download the pdf. Now, this song is on the upbeat.
So it's four four so if you can count, one two
three four, it's on the end, so if you were to say one-and-two-and,
it's on the upbeat. So the way to took play that on the ukulele, start with C
sharp minor.
Basically, bar across on the fourth fret and then on the six top string with your
ring finger. So, to get the upbeat
you just slap your guitar.. slap your ukelele
on the down beat so you get it like that.
So it's two bars of the intro. I'm going to do it a whole lot slower.
I'm gonna stop there because
the third chord I did which was a C-sharp minor then A major, which
was E major. Now, the way I'm playing E major is I'm
barring my ring finger across the fourth fret and I'm
actually barring with my index finger on the second fret. Now here's
the trick is that I'm only playing the top three
strings and then that lasts fourth string, the bottom string
is that it's actually just muted but I gives you an E major and why it's bar like that
because it's easier to press as it's easier to play. So from here, you just do that
and you're going to play that E major a lot and then it goes to B minor.
Okay, so I'll just continue from there, so it's..
That's the first part. Now, the pre-chorus. The pre chorus starts with
F sharp minor.
And this is a G sharp, seventh
suspended fourth, you'll see in the chord chart, play like that.
Now the chorus is also played on the upbeat but for the ukelele and for
this purpose, I played it on the down beat and it just sounds better.
Okay, once again, this is a tenor, pop
voicing but I don't have a tenor, pop voice
so, sorry for this.
And this is a D minor.. err.. D diminish.
And now, it goes back to the
upbeat starting but you're gonna just do a
half a bar and then,
they have like a ? drum like ?, what I do is.
And I just go, with your three fingers. And then
back into the second verse which is.
The second pre-chorus.
G sharp, seven suspended.
and then go back to the chorus.
And you get the idea back to the end which is.
And now the bridge.
The bridge starts with a G sharp minor and I'm going to take it slow, I'm not that good at it
its.
That B, suspended fourth
is basically bar with your pointer finger on the 2nd fret, bottom two
strings
and then just come in with your middle finger and index finger
on the fourth fret, top two strings.
And back to B, suspended fourth
and now I just strum a quick four-four, double time.
Then we go back to
the first for verse, just the first two lines then we will go to the chorus to
finish the song out and remember, it's on the upbeat for
these first two lines on the first verse.
Now goes to the chorus,
I'm gonna try and sing it for you so I apologize in advance.
And then it just end on the first chord that we started on.
Thanks for tolerating
my, not so tenor, pop voice. Hope you can learn this and please
comment, add anything if you have advice
subscribe, and post a video response singing way better than me.
Thank you very much!
