Today we're programming the Sphero, which is a robot with a gyroscope in it
and we can make it move around and all that.
Sphero is a robotic ball, and I am really interested in engineering and robotics.
We've been working on it from second or third grade, and it's really fun.
It's pretty awesome.
With the controller you don't have to do any coding, you just steer it.
And then with the block coding you have to use blocks to code it before you run it.
So then when you actually code then it'll be easier for you to understand
the whole code design.
We get to program it however we like.
And make it do whatever we think.
We're doing a series of challenges to make it, maybe...
It's one go around the chair and come back.
So we would code it to go around the chair and come back.
It's just really fun because it's more of a physical thing than a
computer thing we're things just pop up. Sphero will actually move around.
It has all these features to it that make it really exciting
Because you don't really know the right speed and the right time to do it
right off the top of your head and you have to try multiple times to get it right.
You need to know its speed, the momentum and how far you want it to go
versus how long you want it to go.
We actually get to program stuff the way we want it.
We get to have control over the robot not following a series of guidelines.
Usually when you do classroom assignments - even if it's on the computer
It's usually not programming, so it's like...
It's like a gift that we get to do this.
