KRISTAL: Kristal Wick here with Artbeads Café, and I'm very excited to introduce Becky Nunn.
BECKY: Welcome.
KRISTAL: Of Nunn Design, and we are on location. Yes, we are in the hood, we're in the house,
we are at Becky's lovely company, Nunn Design.
BECKY: In Port Townsend, Washington.
KRISTAL: It's so wonderful here.
BECKY: Thanks for coming.
KRISTAL: Oh, thanks for having us. Normally, these kinds of folks, fabulous designers,
don't let us see the secrets and behind-the-scenes, but we're here because we love your stuff.
We love Becky Nunn.
BECKY: Thank you. And we cleaned because you guys are here.
KRISTAL: They did a little dusting. And we're also having tea in some fine china because
it's tea with Becky, instead of our usual Artbeads Café caffeinated java. So, excited.
Becky has really exciting things to show us and share with you guys. We want to take a
Becky Nunn tour here and talk about Tucson. It's coming, it's coming.
BECKY: Tucson's coming, and I'm blinged out with Tucson prep.
KRISTAL: Tucson prep, Tucson couture. Very lovely. You look gorgeous.
BECKY: Thank you.
KRISTAL: Love all of it.
BECKY: Thanks.
KRISTAL: So fill us in. Show us the new stuff, and of course, what you're getting ready to
launch in Tucson.
BECKY: Great. I'd love to. So the first thing I want to show you is this line of brooches
that we released. They are like this, and they have a really beautiful pattern on the
back of them. Each one is different. And a very nice stem and catch. We did a lot of
research to make sure that we had a really high-quality stem and catch, because it's
a drag to have those break.
KRISTAL: Oh yeah.
BECKY: And then it also has a little bail up here so that you can attach it as a necklace
as well.
KRISTAL: This is so great. So it's two in one. You wear it as a pin, but the same piece,
you can make it into a necklace. Oh, I love that. And the other thing too, I really love
about these -- well, all of your work -- is that you pay attention to the details. So
like the backs are always beautiful, so when your jewelry flips over -- because it does
-- the back looks good, too.
BECKY: That's right. We try to take care of all of the details.
KRISTAL: You do.
BECKY: And on these, they're cast pewter. They're all made in United States, so it's
lead-free cast pewter, and then we're plating with 24 karat gold, .995 silver, and copper.
KRISTAL: Nice.
BECKY: Yes, so it's very nice quality as well. The next thing that I want to show you are
these flat tags that we released. It came out with some flat tags in an oval drop, like
this one right here, and then also some -- we call it our tablet, and they're very fun to
work with and play with.
KRISTAL: Those are great. And I see that they're in your lovely finishes.
BECKY: They are.
KRISTAL: Mix and match your metals.
BECKY: That's right, that's right. In our tags, we don't do those in the sterling silver,
just because you cannot metal stamp onto sterling silver and not have it chip, as far as the
plate goes.
KRISTAL: Smart thinking.
BECKY: Yeah. Then the other item that we released are these earring posts, and what's really
nice about these earring posts is that they have a little loop on the bottom, so you can
dangle a little beauty off the bottom if you want to.
KRISTAL: Or 10.
BECKY: Yeah, or a lot.
KRISTAL: It's so popular right now, isn't it?
BECKY: And the posts on the back are hypoallergenic and it also has a hypoallergenic clutch on
the back as well.
KRISTAL: Nice.
BECKY: And then over here, I have a couple more samples. Here's a piece showing how you
can use the brooch, again, in a necklace form, and as well over here.
KRISTAL: Very cool. Yay, fun party. And I love the Clay Squishers.
BECKY: The Clay Squishers are fantastic, and that's something that I've wanted to stock
from JudiKins. We're a distributor of JudiKins products. Clay Squishers are great because
it allows you to put textures onto polymer clay, you can put texture onto the epoxy clay,
and it opens up a whole new world of a different look.
KRISTAL: Yeah, texturing is really, really fun.
BECKY: Right.
KRISTAL: Nice.
BECKY: Then I brought some samples of pieces that -- well, I didn't bring them, because
we're at my office. But I brought some pieces that I did using these things, so you have
your kit, and then those are your final pieces that you would be able to create.
KRISTAL: They're so fun. And I love how you did such a mixture. So like for this piece
here, you did pearls for the necklace part, which looks gorgeous. Those colors look great.
And then all kinds of chain, and of course cup chain. It's just beautiful, the finishing.
So you've got it all covered; it's not just the actual focal piece, but you've put things
together for ideas of how to finish the whole thing off.
BECKY: That's right.
KRISTAL: I love that, because it's the Becky Nunn look. Which we love. It's very good.
Oh, how lovely. Well, Becky, thanks so much for showing us all your Tucson goodies that
are coming up, and now we're going to take another shot of our tea and head out to the
warehouse, where Becky is going to show us the goodies of Nunn Design.
KRISTAL: So excited to be here on location at Becky Nunn. We're in the hood, yay!
BECKY: And now we're going to be doing a tour of the office.
KRISTAL: Yay! Where's the first stop?
BECKY: The first stop is going to be our prop room.
KRISTAL: Let's go.
BECKY: Let's check it out. So Kristal, this is where we store all of our props, and it
ebbs and flows, and sometimes it's really messy. Well, right now it's really rundown
and messy. We are coming in and out of tradeshows, and so we're restocking, and we also use all
of these props for our photo shoots, so all the catalogs, all the images that you see
in our newsletter, this is where we're pulling it from.
KRISTAL: Okay, okay, let's see your studio. Let's see your office. What, what? Why can't
we go in?
BECKY: Okay, I'm going to show you my office, but it's got to be a fast tour, because it's
really messy.
KRISTAL: Everybody's studio is messy, Becky.
BECKY: Ready, ready, ready? Ta-da! All done.
KRISTAL: Oh, she's such a tease.
BECKY: It's messy. So I'd like to also introduce some of my staff members. A lot of you might
have already heard Sheryl's voice on the phone, but this is Sheryl Weinstein, and this is
her office area. And then we have our fabulous designer, person in charge of all social media,
all of the great graphics you see coming out of Nunn Design is done by Melissa here.
MELISSA: Hi.
KRISTAL: Becky, where is the next stop?
BECKY: The next stop is going to be the warehouse?
KRISTAL: Where all the magic happens.
BECKY: Let's take a look. So now we're in the Nunn Design warehouse, and you can see,
it's really messy, but sort of organized mess. This right here is all of our tradeshow supplies.
So I just got back from the Craft and Hobby Association; we're prepping now for the Tucson
show, so things get staged like this. We have all of our props, all of our supplies, and
we're ready to go. Over here, you'll see that we have all kinds of chains. This is how we
store our chains, and when the orders come in, they're either already spooled and in
the bins, or they're sold by the foot and they're dangling down from here.
Let me introduce you to the rest of the Nunn Design team. This is the Nunn Design team,
and they're looking busy and very focused because we're on camera, okay? Normally they're
all really silly.
When Nunn Design was established 13 years ago, it was just a little rack like this that
was in my back bedroom at the house, and now, over the last 13 years, we've grown... and
we've grown... and we've grown, adding more and more products each year to the Nunn Design
line.
KRISTAL: This is so exciting. Thanks, Becky, for letting us inside the hood of Becky Nunn
Design.
BECKY: Thanks for joining us on our warehouse tour.
KRISTAL: And thanks for joining us on Artbeads Café, where we have all things caffeinated,
and Becky Nunn. It was so much fun. So much fun.
BECKY: On location, here at Nunn Design.
