Hi. Welcome to AppBeat. This week we're here with David Pinke, Head of Mobile Product
development from Condé Nast.
What's a companion app?
Companion apps are one of most interesting spaces at the moment
I think it's why Apple's pushing Siri so much, and there are lots of other apps as well
in the States, one of my favourite it's called Mint. What Mint does is
when you enter all your banking details and it not only helps you quickly
keep track all of your balances, and your credit score but what Mint does is it's
smartly upsells you based on what it knows about you, so what see is you getting lots
of high interest fees, it will say, hey, do you want to get a zero interest credit card
so it helps the user as well as generating it's own revenue for its own business
So not only do they create a great experience for user but their also a really
compelling way to create a business on mobile
How can companion apps change the world going forward?
Companion apps again are really just one of the most interesting parts of the apps
scene at the app store
because they've really do help users manage parts of their life be it banking
social, any number of things
and by having users using things like Siri and
Mint and Couch to Five K and really seen the improvement of your life sort of
merging themselves with their phones and with their app and it's creating a really
interesting dynamic now of people are not always carrying these phones but really
relying on them seeing them as part of their own lives.
