The Tree Campus USA Program
that was started in partnership with
the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota,
to recognize college campuses that really
have their best foot forward
managing their campus trees and
getting their students involved as well.
Last spring UofL received,
for the very first time,
Tree Campus USA designation.
And that’s a designation that
were very very proud of,
because it underscores the commitment that we’ve
made to protect and preserve our
campus trees for future generations.
Trees provide beauty across
all four seasons.
They create shade under which
we can study, read, or just relax.
UofL’s urban forest
is home to more than 1,100 trees,
representing more than 40 different
species, including a white oak
believed to be over 2 centuries old.
To encourage appreciation of these
diverse trees, we’ve put identifying
markers on 60 of our finest specimens,
and were featuring these remarkable trees
in a 1.75 mile
self-guided tree tour
of campus open to everyone.
