Hi guys, I'm Naz, and I'm going to talk to you about muscle injuries and prevention.
as you can see
me and the other guys play wheelchair rugby,
and um
there's a good chance that we over-train and
fatigue our bodies,
so we've got a program where we make sure that we're stretching
-- not just our major muscles, but our small muscles
as well.
A lot of the guys do
either gym,
or have a Thera-Band program,
just stretching the tendons
all the other muscles.
it's very important
that we do our stretches, as well as our warm-ups,
before and after training,
and also before and after our games.
I've had one major injury, I think,
over the past many years,
and that was my
shoulder
somehow you
don't know if you're getting an injury, but mine happened all of a sudden,
and it was that bad where I thought I was in real trouble I thought that I'd done some serious damage.
and I thought I'm
going to have to kiss wheelchair rugby goodbye!
But luckily, I got an MRI scan and I was
very pleased when the result came from that,
saying, you know, it looked all pretty good, and
all I needed was rest.
So having an injury like that
makes you think more about
strengthening your muscles, doing your warm-ups, and
building up your small muscles. Because
sitting around and not doing
much really
doesn't do anything for your muscles; they get smaller and weaker,
but at the same time it's important to
keep busy, doing
some sort of activity,
but also balancing that out. If it's hard activity, you need to do your warm-ups,
just make sure that you've got...
you're conscious
of any types of injuries that you might
get along the way.
I think we all sort of strain our bodies, but it's
pretty important to
not overstrain,
and if you do overstrain your body
to know how to recover from it. Doing your stretches and
your exercises and all that type of thing.
