UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says that
the anti poverty goals are ambitious, but doable -
"the goals can be achieved."
Yet, with the Summit on the Millennium Development Goals
starting on the 20th of September,
at a press conference in New York Monday morning,
he did acknowledge that many countries are still falling short,
especially in Africa.
"Too often, global economic management neglects
the poor and the vulnerable.
And the money we need - even though it is modest -
is not yet there, a problem compounded by
the economic crisis."
But with 5 years still to go until the deadline
for meeting the goals, the Secretary-General is confident.
"The world as a whole is on track to
reduce poverty by half by 2015
- a tremendous achievement."
