Welcome to SVSU’s Theatre. My name is David Rezeszutek, and I’m an assistant professor
of theatre at SVSU. I’m directing the second play in the spring semester called “Strange
Snow,” a play by Steven Metcalf. It is a dramatic comedy and it takes place between
June 12th and June 15th. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 dollars for students
and seniors.
“Strange Snow” has something for everybody. It is a “everyman” story about two Vietnam
vets that are dealing with post traumatic stress disorder. They made a promise that
when the war was over they were going to get together no matter what for opening day.
Well things went wrong in Vietnam and they’re both carrying some issues that they need to
heal together.
This is a story about people that you and I both know. The characters are both mechanics,
truck drivers, and teachers. Simple people living every day lives on a special day.
Out of it comes some comedy. Comes a lot of dramatic moments. There comes some romance
and there comes an actual romance out of it, or so we might think.
It’s a wonderful story of everyday people in everyday situations trying to heal.
At SVSU, it’s exciting because it’s university theatre. Sometimes people think university
theatre is theatre not up to its normal par. People think University theatre in the Midwest
might not be the something that they would want to waste their time on. When, in actuality,
people of the university theatre setting are actually working on their craft. They are
getting better. And what they’re doing is they are becoming stars of tomorrow.
Actor 1: I heard you Danny! Actor 2: “You’re what?”
Actor 1: “I heard the scare type. And you landed wrong and your ankle’s broke. I went
back for ya and I got shot!” Actor 2: “Oh god.”
It’s a great way to spend a night out. Most people here are going to sit down and curl
up in front of the TV and eat some nachos, right? Why not go out try something new. Try
something different. Try a live theatrical event. When you come out to SVSU, it’s right
here in Saginaw. It’s great. You can see the stars of tomorrow today. The price is
right. General admission is $10, student tickets are $7. It’s a great way to spend a warm
evening in an air conditioned area. And what a great way to spend a night out on the town
with your date.
