We were motivated to introduce a workplace wellbeing programme because weÕre a client
centred organisation, and we wanted to help our staff maintain their healthy work-life
balance.
WeÕve lots of positive terms and conditions that staff find really helpful; flexible working,
that type of thing, but also included we have an employee assistance programme and a 24-7
helpline, and access to internet facilities as well.
CSWP and Connexions is based across 90 sites across Coventry and Warwickshire, so we needed
to access all of our staff, so Lynn and I took our Healthy Wellbeing roadshows out to
staff in a lot of those main areas so that we could reach more staff.
The benefits were, extremely motivational for our own immediate team, who deliver the
wellbeing programme and who manage it all, HR and health and safety, and also for the
whole organisation showing that weÕre along the right lines, that we look after staff,
and we can evidence that, and being able to use the logo, the winners logo, on our recruitment
process so staff can see that it would be a good company to come and work for.
We do have plans to introduce new initiatives in the future, CSWP mainly is a government
funded organisation and so obviously money is very tight. Whatever we try to introduce
is going to have to be at minimal cost. We have recently introduced a cycle to work scheme
which is a salary sacrifice so staff can get that benefit as well, so weÕll be promoting
that more in the future.
The key to our success and wellbeing is focussing on the positives I think, we changed the stress
policy to a wellbeing policy to focus on how the staff can manage their stress so it doesnÕt
become an issue and that they have to take time off work and that type of thing can become
a lot more serious, so it is managed carefully and correctly. And our terms and conditions
and our whole philosophy in the company support that.
Winning the health and wellbeing award last year was a huge boost to myself personally,
and Lynn, and our team, because it recognised and acknowledged that what weÕre doing out
there for our staff is worthwhile, which was reflected in our investors in people award
where we received a glowing report that staff actually recognised that the company does
help as much as they can.
