It’s the new Myspace... So new, it’s got the word “new” in the web address of the
social network’s preview of the design.
The company put out a video to show off all the new-ness.
But can JT bring sexy back to MySpace? Consider this:
In June of 2006, Hitwise said more people visited MySpace than Google. But by June of
this year, web traffic stats company Alexa ranked Myspace 161st in total traffic.
As for the reboot, just a quick glance at the headlines shows a skeptical press.
TechCrunch’s Drew Olanoff didn’t even try to make nice, saying the idea quote “makes
me want to hurl,” and that MySpace just...0924
“...slapped a new coat of paint on something that has already been sold and pushed to the
side of the road.”
But it’s a total visual revamp, with a horizontal UI and emphasis in slick minimalism. Which
is why The Next Web’s Harrison Weber is a cautious optimist:
“...it will take an insane amount of work, talent, luck, money... Still…I personally
can’t help but hope something comes out of it. Everybody loves a comeback.”
No word yet on when the revamped service launched.
