JOEL SIEGEL: All right. There's another aspect to playing the dome and this is where you
can get more volume out of the dome. It's already pretty loud but you can pretty much
double the volume when you strike the dome instead with the beat of the stick with the
side of the stick. So you're kinda getting more surface area that's coming into contact
so you're going to draw more sound out of the bell. I'll just show you with an American
down stroke. You can tell it's loud. Now playing that crash, you can see that I was using perhaps
two different strokes. I was kinda playing through and kinda coming off to the side.
I was also playing and coming back. If you play your down stroke, you can imagine that
the cymbal would give a little bit and then it'll just come back and hit your stick and
you just get errant sounds. You don't want that. But here's your down stroke versus your
full stroke.
