John K. Father of Ren, Stimpy and George Liquor,
the last master of the Age of the Creative Driven Era,
We know what he has done,
but actually I want to tell who he really is
And I think this picture
by Iwao Takamoto,
is the answer
Kricfalusi?... Mmm...
I hate him
Mighty Mouse and Ren and Stimpy were funny, but I loathe
what he said about the anime after working on Transformers exploitations
whose he feels ashemed of
What did he said about anime?
Many artists are against manga.
Yes, but Kricfalusi worked for Tokyo Movie Shinsha.
Specifically in the character design of Galaxy High, in 1986.
Just 13 episodes. Right... Kricfalusi uses to
*** on works where he has worked on, but it hurts,
because he is someone who knows about what's he's talking.
and he grants some positive aspects in anime
as its use of color,
and that it's an industry faced to give to the audience what they want to see, not to tell
what to watch.
Do you know Iwao Takamoto?
Quite... but I don't know much about classic American animation.
Takamoto is American?
As American as Walt Disney, actually he worked for him.
Have you discovered anything?
Right
... Do you know Filmation?
It was a limited animation company founded in the 60's for television,
that unlike other studies, they decided to work with more realistic styles.
Exact
¿¿and did you know that
Kricfalusi started working there???
I Knew had had worked on limited animation...
But precisely Filmation...
The most boring studio
from the era of Saturday Morning Cartoons...
The animation consisted on tracing,
or directly photocopy predesigned model sheets again and again...
... with soulless movements,
a design that is not well built nor cartoonish...
And they did not change their p roduction system until their bankrupt
This producer goes against Kricfalusi's whole artistic philosophy...
The kid had to eat
But can you
imagine
the trauma that he should got working here?
He could not do much with the scripts he had.
Sure... but they are not the main responsibles.
Kricfalusi participated in a time when they wanted to try something different,
producing revivals of classic animations,
they tried to imitate the style of Tex Avery, they hired
Golden Age's animators too
to provide talent...
But there was nothing to do,
The System
was all long corrupted.
Kricfalusi
embittered at this producer
And ended up leaving for Hanna Barbera in the early 80s.
Good job
I'll talk you about Takamoto.
He was Milt Kahl's helper, the best known of Disney's 9 Whise Men,
He took part of the movies: Cinderella, The Lady & the Trap,
Sleeping Beauty,
and 101 Dalmatians...
Kahl & Takamoto got known for dessigning the "Disney Boy"
Soft, clear and controlled Expressions, realistic movements...
Shy and goodie character...
This not seems at all what someone like Kricfalusi admires.
No... Actually *** Kricfallusi hates Milt Kahl
He says he refined the bland and souless character
till it became the current Disney's Hero.
A stick with a wig who goes from one production to another till he becames
a nighmare.
Prince Arthur, Mogli, Taron... with skirt you get the Disney's Girl.
You let her grow som years, and Yeah...
90's Disney Princess
The worst of all, is that Kricfalusi is right
this is what I hate more of Kricfalusi,
he allways pans being right.
But back to Takamoto...
Why did you not said you knew him when I showed you this frame?
It doesn't look like his Disney's dessigns
It must be Hanna Barbera's
Here we can see Kahl's influence,
but Takamoto knew how to balance it with cartoony dessign,
to adapt it to limited animation, and to make a dessign
clear and with soul.
but after Archie's success, Hanna Barbera tried more realistic dessigns
They dessigned characters just to make them look cool in statical posses
They didn't gave personality
to the movements
even when they where cartoony
and they tried to balance it putting more detail
years later, when Kricfalusi
entered Hanna Barbera
The sistem was corrupt. About that age's Hanna Barbera, John K said:
John K couldn't work with charismatical characters
nor to work with nice semirrealistical dessigns
while he animated a full parade of *** animations
His mint got a RADICAL nostalgia
Hanna Barbera was on a Highway to Hell,
and they would have carried John K with them
if Bakshi didn't rescued him. Do you thing that picture is from that age?
- No. .. maybe that's nothing, that's like a puzzle piece that does not quite fit.
Perhaps that's just an obsolete animation style he couldn't work with.
