[PART 1 OF 5: MEET TORO Y MOI] This is a good interview.
You're not asking me about chillwave.
[CHAZ BUNDICK, TORO Y MOI] Don't ask me about chillwave.
We have this many pedals on stage.
No. No, just kidding.
We probably have, like, a whole row of pedals, though.
Like, Jordan has, like, seven and I have like, four pedals.
- Patrick has three. - Andy's got, like, 12, for the drums.
And then the drummer has, like, 12 pedals.
- This is Toro, the dog.

Playing with a laptop, is not how I, like, learned to play,
or perform music.
- I was just uncomfortable onstage, playing that way.
- So, getting a band was always sort of a priority.
Oh, I thought it was really good. I've seen Toro Y Moi before,
but this time was even better because he had a full band.
[JORDAN BLACKMON, GUITAR] We've never all played music together in the same band, but
we've all played shows together in our different bands that we grew up in.
Actually, James, the merch guy and driver, and then Andy, the drummer,
we were all three roommates.
I'd come over to his house and record songs and, like, he'd like,
put tracks on it. And I'd put tracks on his.
So, anyway, we've played music together but this is the first time as
Toro Y Moi.
I've known those guys since I was, like, a kid, so...
- This is, like, actually, our first time
being together for a long period of time,
since, like, we all moved away after college.
[*** SHORTRIDGE, BALKANS] The South East states are, kind of,
so isolated.
- Before you hit Brooklyn or San Francisco,
you're gonna go to Birmingham or South Carolina a couple times.
And, so, Chaz and his band used to come down here and play with us
at this house called the Swiss Studios,
which was a pretty crazy night. I think the lights went out.
And there was a lot of glass broken...
I'm from Augusta.
I traveled two hours to get here.
They are taking stuff that's been around for 20 years
and just amping it up, making it new.
Just, breathing new life into it.
[DAVID MANSFIELD, DOUBLE PHANTOM RECORDS] I always thought that Atlanta's a hip-hop city,
obviously.
- And always, if you wanted rock music, you'd go to Athens.
I mean, like, right when we got to Atlanta, we just
turned it straight to the rap station.
- Yeah, it's, like, the best playlist ever.
'Cause like, Atlanta's, like, owning the rap scene right now.
Well, if you look at Southern hip-hop as opposed to...
Or Atlanta hip-hop as opposed to any other hip-hop, there's so much more
kind of, punk aesthetic to it,
which, kind of, blends in with us.
Really dirty.
Everything's dirty here.
- I'm getting really hot in here too, a little bit.
Is it this light?
- I don't know. Something's making me, like...
Is it the tea?
- No!
Is it me?
- It's not... Yeah.
Just kidding.
See ya later.
Bye, YouTube.
Bye, YouTube.
