Alexei Mukhin, the general director of the Political Information Center
The situation with Snowden shouldnít be an indicator of the relations between Russia and the U.S.
because it has a speculative character.
It is obvious that the American establishment was stirred up due to the topic
because Russia directly rejected fulfillment of the United Statesí nonlegal desire.
It is clear that Mr. Snowden is valuable to America as a witness, not as an information holder.
He is a very strong factor of disturb for the American establishment,
staying on the territory of Russia in this role.
This is all.
In recent time Russian-American relations have been developing in a positive developing course;
and establishing of joint enterprises,
Americaís access to the Russian Arctic Shield foretold the very positive promising future.
Probably, it is the reason for Vladimir Putin was annoyed giving first comments on the situation,
when Mr. Snowden stayed in Sheremetyevo.
It was obvious that Russia had no opportunity to give Snowden away.
In fact the situation was imposed on Russia, and its outcome was predetermined.
Today, I believe, it is necessary to chill hotheads from both sides
ñ in Russia many insulting words were said toward the American establishment ñ
and the problem should be settled as required.
I donít think in the near future Mr. Snowden will be a serious factor of disturb
in relations between Putin and Obama;
at least the U.S. and Russia are not interested in this.
