what is the knee-function on a compressor?
The knee-function on a compressor normally offers two settings
which are the hard-knee or the soft-knee setting. some compressors actually offer a ***
for the knee-settings, so you can gently choose between the hard and the soft knee.
What it does it makes the curve of where the compressor starts to work harder or softer.
With a hard-knee the compressor works exactly from the point where you set the threshold.
And applies the ratio that you have set, exactly from that point.
The soft-knee, on the other hand, works a little bit before the threshold and increases the ratio which is being applied.
So we have a more softer affect of the compression taking place. -so it's not that abrupt.
that's basically the difference between them.

I've got some of these quick tutorials, I'm posting them weekly on tuesdays and sometimes on wednesday.
And i've got full-length tutorials about compression and other audio processors and
these are being posted on every friday. -so check these out here as well!
