This is not an artistic project.
I do not want to make this film to express myself.
I'm going to Thailand to talk to the surviving masters of meditation
and to record the last days of perhaps the most exciting contemporary school of philosophical practice,
the Forest Thai Tradition.
At the end of the nineteenth century a few uncompromising Thai monks left monasteries in cities
and went to the jungle to explore the nature of their own minds.
They wandered through the jungle paths known only to tigers,
meditated under trees, in caves and under cliffs.
This is how the Thai Forest Tradition began.
This tradition is threatened with extinction.
Modern economy devastated the jungle.
*** and financial scandals have shaken Thai Buddhism.
People turned away from their religion and are not quite as willing to support the meditating monks.
Without support of the lay community, deep and long meditation in the jungle is impossible.
I will find the last of the great masters, hidden away in the jungle.
I am going to ask them what they have discovered in their own consciousness and in the world around them.
I'll stay with them, and I will meditate according to their instructions.
And maybe I'll find out what do they feel about the modern world.
I will share all of my discoveries with you, in the form of a documentary film.
I will appreciate all your support.
