The European Union has offered an "unprecedented" package of political and economic aid to Israel
and Palestine, if the two reach a final peace agreement.
The EU's Foreign Affairs Council said in a statement Monday that it would offer Israel
and the future state of Palestine a "special privileged partnership," which would provide
them with increased access to European markets, facilitation of trade and investment, promotion
of business-to-business relations, and security cooperation,... in the event of a final peace
agreement. Israel's reaction to the offer was less than
enthusiastic, with one Israeli diplomatic official telling The Times of Israel that
it "seems somewhat unrealistic" with "no concrete content at all."
