Today I will be talking about Labrador Retrievers
How are they?
They are kind and friendly, easy to get along with
and they socialize well with other dogs and humans.
We can't misinterpret calm with tired, common mistake.
They are very active, and they love to run into strangers backyards.
The enjoy playing and swimming.
Their owners are constantly canalize their energy trough hunting and fishing trips.
Where do this dogs come from?
They are popular pets in the United States, but they come from Newfoundland,one of Canada's islands.
On the 19th century, an english man called Lord Malmesbury, was mesmerized with the dog's instincts.
He bought several Labradors from Canada to export to the United Kingdom.
This dogs always worked with hunters and fishers
this is why they play like and enjoy hunting or fishing
Today, they use their senses to help family members hunt
They are used for many activities apart from hunting
It's one of the favorite dogs used by K-SAR
Search and Rescue Dogs
They are used as guide dogs, therapy dogs, assistance dogs and the most popular canine pet
Types of Labrador Retrievers
This breed comes from a breed called Newfoundland, similar to Canada's island.
From that breed comes the Labrador Retriever
This breed haves 3 colors
Black, Vainilla and Chocolate
Characteristics
His scientific name is Canis Lupus Familiaris
Is medium sized, muscular body, strong and compacted.
His chest is wide and deep
and they have a straight back
they have a wide head, with an elongated and wide snout
this breed has a scissor-like bite
and they have strong jaws
Medium-sized ears dangling from the sides of the head
They have vivid and smart looking eyes with a brown toned color
Their tails, a breed characteristic, has a thick base with a pointy end
with an abundant coat and a round diameter.

This dog's coat is dense and without curls.
It has a doable coat. The under-coat is soft and water-proof and the exterior coat is hard. It makes this dog a water-proof dog.
The have a soft bite, a trained Labrador can carry an egg on his mouth without breaking it.
Alimentation
They can eat up to 600 grams of dry food per day. A 10 pound bag can last about a week.
Temper and Character
Social, friendly, loyal, intelligent and a fun lover
Easy to train, but only with the right amount of time and space.
Perfect for children
They have a lot of energy and they have to exercise often
Since they love to play, use them to do cardio together!
They love water, diving and swimming
They require constant attention. Don't tie them in the backyard an visit them once a day like many people do!
Remember they are part of the family and they have feelings too.
For training you have to start with them as puppies
If you want a puppy and want a calm life, Labradors are not recommended
They are perfect for outdoor activities
Weight and Height
For Labrador Retrievers, they average height is from 22 to 23 inches, males are bigger than females
Males weight from 59 to 75 pounds. Females weight from 55 to 71 pounds.
But I have seen heavier dogs from this breed
Health
Overall they are healthy dogs, but since they are so popular, many owners are irresponsible while taking care of them
Some of the issues they can have is hip and elbow displacement, vision problems and obesity
lots of exercise
two to three times a day
so they can use their big amount of energy and maintain their weight
They don't like loneliness, they need company
If you have a place to swim, take the dog, they love swimming, is part of their instinct.
Don't fill their food plate to the top, because they can get really fat
Is recommended to brush their hair once a week
And bathe them every time necessary
They can't take abuse and yelling
If you want to raise your dog properly, you need a lot of patience
But if you use violence, don't think we won't turn against you!
Take them to a vet 2 or three times a year
to keep them happy and healthy

Star Labradors
Since today we are talking about Labradors, I'm presenting two stars.
The male is named Samson and measured 52 inches long and 25 inches tall.
Bigger than average
and the female is named Delilah measuring 36 inches long and 25 inches tall
They are both 9 to 10 years old
They are very playful, friendly and they love attention
Specially Samson, who didn't let me get near Delilah much
