Well, my name is Katelyn.
I was born here in Hoodriver.
And grew up in the small town that it is.
What I enjoyed about Katelyn,
uh, which is unique to Katelyn,
was her
enthusiam.
and her bubbliness, her happiness. She was so
happy, to be in the program
and be able to learn the things that would help her help other people.
Well, Katelyn first came to the fire department by 2003 as part of the
Hoodriver High School
student firefighter program.
Which allows studentfirefighters under the age of eighteen, to become a member of
fire departments through out the county.

I'm kinda going to use as a stepping stone
in my career path.
I'd really like to get into the nursing program eventually..
I'm actually going to take the online physiology class
this fall, with a friend.
My husband's going back to school in Spring, ah, so it'll be
challenging, both of us going back to school,
and having Ammi, but we can do it. Whats life without a challenge?
She is currently an active member with West side fire now, as one of our EMS volunteer
which responds to medical calls
through out the district.
Maybe that's what got her interested in the career she's in now, is getting some training here at the fire district. And now the fire district is the
recipient
of the college training she's getting. She's bringing that back to the community and to help
our EMS calls
To the public that we serve.
Katelyn is the very deserving recipient of the scholarship that she got and
it certainly helped her be a success in the program.
and a success out there in the world
