One of the main causes of the war was actually saiors' rights
we had a lot of British ships coming in and taking American
sailors off of ships and making them subjects of the Royal British Navy
in 1812 we had a lot of battles in Canada
actually went up into York - we burned
Toronto down to the ground. We had to supplement because we really didn't have a navy,
back then we had maybe 16 full size ships
and we actually gave Privateer papers
to a lot of out of work sailors, now Privateers are merchant sailors who had their own ships
and you could outfit those with guns. These guys can go and they can attack these British ships.
that caused a lot of problems for the British
so they weren't too happy about it. Baltimore became known as a "Nest of Pirates"
(1813) British soldiers they come over to American
they come over to the Chesapeake by region
the British get to Washington D.C. the militia
from Washington D.C. and Bladensburg ran. British soldiers eat with President James Madison's
fine China
they make jokes they laugh then they burn it down
Major George Amristead over at Fort Mchenry he is ready for them
at a usual time, any usual time, the Fort McHenry soldiers would be about 80 - 100 strong - they had 1,000 soldiers!
