Alright. On the Fender Telecaster for setting the pickup height, you've basically got two
totally different kinds of pickups. The bridge pickup is mounted directly to the bridge plate
and it's got three screws right here. These all effect height as well as the angle of
the pickup. By tightening the screws, you're raising the pickup towards the strings which
is going to be a brighter sound. And, by lowering the pickup and loosening the screws it's going
to make it a little bit darker sound a little meatier tone. And, also by the way you set
those screws it's going to either tilt the pickup one way or tilt the pickup the other
way. So, basically you want that pickup to be flat in conjunction to the strings. And,
that's why they have three screws there. On the neck pickup, your height adjustment screws
are underneath the pick guard. So, the only way to adjust this pickup is to actually remove
these screws from the pick guard. Take that out and then you can set the pickup height
with that. You're basically, wanting to adjust the volume of the two pickups by the height
of the pickups. Some people are going to like a more consistent volume between the two pickups.
Some people might want to set to where they get a hotter sound when they switch to one
pickup or the other. And, you can do this by altering the string height. The other thing
you want to make sure is, is if you press down on all the strings down here at the end
of the neck you want to make sure there's space between the pickup and the strings.
And, that you?re not actually going to touch any of the strings with the pickup. And, the
same goes for the bridge pickup as well. Again, string height pickup height and tone are all
a matter of personal taste. You just don't want anything that actually touches the strings
or affects the performance of the guitar.
