For anyone who wasn’t here last week, what we’ve been working on is stencils of flowers
by even looking at negative shapes, shadows or highlights, um and, yeah, we can, like,
show people how to do it, but, today we’re going to go on to do spray painting. Um we’re
going to go through the technique outside because it’s got fumes so we don’t want
to breathe in too much. It’s basically like spray glue.
When you spray on, if you don’t have it on, it’s going to go under the cracks, and
so what’s that effect called? It’s ‘over spray’ you end up with…
you don’t have clean lines around your stencil, your edges, so you need to make sure it’s
stuck down properly, however if it’s too stuck down you’ll never get it off again.
Don’t do that. Shame! Like our class mates! Ok so what you want is a very, very thin layer,
like that… use a bit more… So when you have your stencil stuck down,
if you have delicate little pieces, then, make sure they are all attached because you
don’t want to end up with lots of little bits flying around then you need to choose
your paint colour so I’m going to use pale blue – and I’m going to use the pink one
and then you shake it up… and then you do a little test spray somewhere, make sure it’s
alright. The main, like point Is that you are not going
to go… like that… and hold it down all the time because then you’ll have a puddle
of ink and that’s not really the point, so… you want to get a really light covering…
even if you have to do it three times… You just want to move from across the stencil.
About 20cm? Yes about 20cm. Not too close – otherwise it splutters. OK.
So I feel like I’m done and you want to take your stencil off quite quickly because
the longer you leave it the more likely you’re going to get all your over spray and you just
carefully peel it off… Oh know hers has worked really well! Oh dear!
Carefully! You want to be able to use it again and you’re done!
Um and if you’re going to want to use your stencil again – I’m guessing you’ll
want to do more than one – you don’t need to put more glue on.
So just analysing our work – ‘as you do!’ See here, if you come a bit closer, around
here I’ve got this kind of texture which is a bit fuzzy, then I’d want to do it again
and make sure that all of the lines are stuck down and I haven’t put too much paint on.
Um and what you can also do is, if you have… maybe better on Jasmine’s, if you have an
area that you don’t want to have sprayed in a certain colour… if you want to do layers
– yes if you want to do layers, so what you can do is use some newspaper and you can
cover up sections and use masking tape and create a mask against the paint and then when
you take it off you can create layers and you can mask around the edges if you don’t
want to have this square you can spray around the edge.
