In this video, I will show you a problem that you may encounter if you
are using a PC laptop with Wordfast Classic
Here I'm using a Lenovo ThinkPad X60s
I'm running Windows XP and Word 2010
I'm using the latest version of Wordfast Classic, 6.03t
and it looks quite normal: I'm able to start a translation session
and I can close it
so everything is normal
but if I close Word, here is what will happen
I'm getting a crash and Word tells me: 'Microsoft Word has encountered a
problem and cannot exit'. If I press 'End now'
Word will try to recover
but it won't succeed. 'Please tell Microsoft about this problem', well I won't
send the report
and now Word will start again
and I'm freezing this frame here which says 'Send to Bluetooth'
because in fact it is the reason for our problem
if we go to the 'Add-ins' tab
we can see that there is
a Bluetooth
menu option here; on some systems it can be a 'Send to Bluetooth'
icon
in the 'Add-ins' tab
but in either case, it's the cause of the problem
now if I go to the Lenovo support site, I can see that there are several drivers available for
this particular computer, the X60 and for Windows XP, there are two drivers
one is 5.1 from June 2008 and the other one is 5.5
from November 2010; now, if I go to Control Panel in Windows, I can see that
I have indeed the Bluetooth driver installed
and if I look at the information about it I can see that I have version
5.1, which is the older one
and this older version is buggy
this is the one that causes the problem and the way to solve the
problem is to uninstall Bluetooth and either keep your computer
without Bluetooth, or then install it with a newer version, one which is
not buggy
and this is what I will do so I will uninstall Bluetooth and
I will download the newer version and install it, so let's make a pause and
we'll be back when it's ready
now I have uninstalled the old version of Bluetooth
I have rebooted and i have installed the newer version, so it's here, if I look
at the exact version, it's 5.5
so that's the newer version from November 2010; now let's see how
Wordfast is going to behave in Word 2010
now if I go to the 'Add-ins' tab, I can find Wordfast normally, but there is no longer
a Bluetooth menu option; instead, if I go to File, Add-ins and Send
I can see there's a an option for "sending a copy of the document to a
Bluetooth device" so that's where it was relocated
well, actually,
it's pretty useless, but anyway, it's there
and in any case, I can now use Wordfast just normally, so I can
do whatever I want
and when I close Word
it will no longer crash so I can restart it
and it's working just normally
so there you have it,
how to solve the problem of the buggy Bluetooth driver on PC laptops that have
Bluetooth
