Solitaire is a fun card or computer game for one player. There are many versions but we
are looking at just one. We're going to run through it kind of slowly to give you a good
overview of the game, then you should be ready to play a new game.
Solitaire is a simple game but at the same time, it's hard to win but that's what makes
it fun! It's easy to play over and over. Let's start with where to find the game on
your computer. Go to the windows icon, then games. Open the games folder and select "Solitaire".
The computer will deal out seven cards in the first row then six in the next row, then
five and so on. Starting on the left in each row, the first card will be face up and the
rest face down. We want to be able to move these cards off the pile one by one, so we
can get to the cards under each one. Here we go. This is the rest of the deck over
here. We'll use that to get more cards later. This is called the foundation pile.
The object of the game is to get each of the four suits in order from Ace as a one up to
the King in the foundation pile. Ace then 2, 3, 4 and so on. Each suit, Hearts, diamonds,
clubs and spades, has its own pile. These are called the running piles. To put
a card on one of the piles, the color order must alternate, red, black, red, black and
in reverse number order, so for example, a black 10, then red 9, black 8, red 7 and so
on. Do you see a card that could be moved?
Put any Aces at the bottom of a running pile or from the deck in the foundation pile.
Once you have an Ace in the foundation pile, you may add the 2, then 3 of that suit and
so on. Do you see a card that could be moved?
Move any card that you can in each turn, check each running pile carefully against any of
the other piles or against the deck, looking for a red or black card that's needed next.
You may move an entire running pile as long as the numbers and colors work. So a pile
that starts with a red Jack may be moved onto a pile that ends with a black Queen.
Do you see a card that could be moved? Keep moving all that you can.
If you can't move any cards or have moved all that you can, then click on the deck.
It will automatically turn over three cards at a time. You must use the bottom card here
before you can get to any card under it. When you empty a spot, you may start a new
pile if you have a King available from the deck or on a running pile. The opposite color
Queen would go next, opposite color Jack. Continue always alternating red, black, red,
black, in reverse number order. Double click on the Ace will move it to the
right spot. Once you have an Ace in the foundation pile you can move the 2 then the 3 and so
on. Click on the deck to get three more cards to try. You'll
do this over and over. Continue putting cards in the correct piles
and clicking on the deck to get more as needed. I think you have the general idea. You can
keep playing until...ahh here we go. There are no more possible moves. What do you want
to do? End game. Try again. As tempting as it would be to try again, we're going to end
the game. If you get to a point that you can no longer
move any cards, the game will tell you that there are no more moves then you can try again
or stop playing. Beware, it can be tough to stop playing!
Win by using all of the cards and filling each foundation by suit with the Ace through
King cards. Now you have a new game to play when you have
a little spare time or are looking for something to do! Try other new games, too! You're bound
to find lots to like with games
.
