Associated Students Incorporated hosted the first ever dance marathon at Fresno State
as a fundraiser for the Bulldog Pantry Saturday. The marathon ran from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday.
Parmita Choudhury, Executive Vice President of ASI, oversaw the committee that put together
the fundraiser. Well, first of all, we are trying to create
the largest philanthropy at Fresno State. There's no other opportunity to really like
to get together with all your Fresno State students and fund raise. From a student perspective,
this is a great way to go to something large and get really involved on campus. And it's
also a great way to give back to your local community.
Students who danced at the marathon were encouraged to pledge hours but it wasn't as required
as long as they had their student ID. Miss Fresno County Elizabeth Farr was one
of the emcees at the marathon that helped keep students on their feet and dancing.
I think it's a great idea. I think it's something that obviously young college students
like to do. So why not get them out there dancing and doing something they're familiar
with to raise tons of money for a good cause? Students that needed a break from dancing
could visit the Student Recreation Center patio and enjoy the concession stand or take
pictures with their friends in the photo booth. Sigma Chi member Evan Selander was glad to
see a different kind of event come to campus. I mean I feel like it's pretty cool. Like
it's definitely cool to see like all of Fresno State get together because we don't
reaally see events like this as often as other campuses. So it's pretty cool.
With the success of the dance marathon, plans are already being made to get ready
for next year. Christopher Costello, The Collegian at Fresno
State.
