How to Create Your First Squidoo Lens Part Two
Hi, this is Anna, and this is another video tutorial about Squidoo. As I promised, in
this tutorial we're going to continue where we have left off. However, there is a little
secret I want to share with you. So listen! I am not going anywhere, although I am a squid,
metaphorically speaking. Did you know that a squid can swim as fast as 30 km/h, and that
is almost 2 km/m? And thats really fast. Well, the truth is that I can't do that, even
if I tried really, really hard. Even Usein Bolt would need more time for this he
would need twice as much time in order to achieve this speed. Without further ado, I
will start with our tutorial. What are we waiting for?
The first thing you need to do is to login to your Squidoo account. If you haven't done
anything you only need to click on the Create a Lens button. On the other hand, if you followed
my steps from the previous video, and started a lens, you need to go to your dashboard,
and click on the link All Lenses which is located on the right side of the page under
your trophies. So, here you will find all your lenses, and then you need to press Edit
in order to enter Squidoos workshop. So, as you can see we have a draft for our
lens. This is where the fun begins. What we need to do is to start adding content. I want
to tell you that I have already added the content, so I will now explain everything
I did and help you do the same. When it comes to the introduction of your
lens, you should have at least 200 characters or more. The introduction part is very important
as many people decide on whether they will read the content or not based on the first
few lines they read. So, try to make this paragraph interesting, and introduce your
readers with the topic of your lens. After you have done that you need to add a picture,
and this will earn you some points which is great. You need to find a website that
has images that are free to use. Some of the websites require attribution, meaning that
you should credit the author when using their images. So, you should do that, and under
no circumstances should you use pictures that might be the subject to copyright. In addition
to this, you should always cite the image source even if the images are yours.
You are probably wondering how you can do this in the introduction module, as there
are no fields that would allow you to do so. So, here is what you should do: you should
use anchor text that will look like this. If you want to make italic text, then the
HTML should look like this. Okay? Image Source
It might be helpful to know which website you can use in regard to free images. There
are many of them, but I prefer using Pixabay.com. As a matter of fact, that is the only website
I use for images for my lenses. Now, we are moving on. For this video tutorial
we are going to use only text modules, and in the next tutorial we're going to spice
things up a little bit by adding some very interesting modules. You have to have at least
five modules, so you should divide your content accordingly. After you have successfully created
five modules, the Amazon module will appear. Here you need to find a product on Amazon
that is related to your topic, and it is advisable to write something about that product in your
own words of course. Also, don't forget to change generic module titles, and give them
proper titles. So, in your own words - as you can see here Welcome to Squidoo Dear Lensmaster.
Here it also doesnt say New Text Module, but Tips for Squidoo Newbies. If I scroll
down the page, you can see that every text module has its title which is not generic.
It even says here: Change Generic Module Titles. So, do that.
What we can also do is to add a Lens Love Widget, and Bookmark Widget. You will find
these modules by pressing Browse All Modules, and you need to press All Modules, and find
under letters B and L. You see here Bookmark widget, and under L Lens Love widget. When
you add these two modules you can click Done Adding. I have already done that, so I wont
do it twice. These are the basic elements of a lens, and now we have just a few more
things to do prior to publishing our first Squidoo lens. We need to select a theme for
our lens, and you can choose any of the themes available. So, right here, it says pick a
theme, express yourself, and you can choose from any of the themes listed here. Ive
chosen Backyard party, and you can also preview this theme to see how it will look like. After
that you need to apply this theme to your lens. Aside from this, our lens should have
at least five tags, and so far we have selected only three. So, just add more tags to your
lens that are directly connected to your content, and we are done. You will find tags here,
at the bottom of the page. You see I have: Squidoo tips for beginners, how to, how to
Squidoo, lenses, Squidoo secrets, Squidoo tips for newbies. And dont forget to save
your tags. The only thing left for us is to press the Publish button that is located at
the top of page this orange button. After doing that, thats what we are going to
do now, we are going to press publish. After doing that, you can see that your lens is
published, and you can see how it looks by selecting the link Go See It. I will do that.
Here is how our lens looks like. Now, if we go back to our Dashboard All Lenses and
we will see that our lens is under review, and you only need to wait for it to be approved.
So, that's it for this tutorial, and you should prepare for the next one as we are going to
explore some, and interesting modules, and have a lot of fun, as always. So, thank you
very much for watching, thank you very much for listening, and as usually, I will now
stop talking and say to you goodbye. Bye, bye.
