Marty Atencio: A Casualty of the Maricopa County Jails
On December 15, 2011, Ernesto "Marty" Atencio was arrested after yelling at a woman in a parking lot.
Mr. Atencio did not resist arrest. He was taken to the Maricopa County Jail, run by Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

In the booking room, he was confronted by at least eight officers, wrestled to the ground and tasered.

Mr. Atencia was brought to a cell stripped, and left motionless on the floor.
8 minutes later. Staff finally performed CPR.
He never regained consciousness.
