How does it feel to win a close one?
Feels good, um, you know, I'm proud of our guys with the way that they came back from Tuesday. You know, you get punched
in the mouth, um, at home and you feel like things maybe aren't going well.
There's a nice tendency to kind of just slide and keep dropping. I'm proud of the way these guys came back.
They really showed a lot in terms of anytime Bellevue made a run they would, you know, kind of stay the course, withstand
the punch in the mouth and just kind of keep staying with the game plan.
So you were pleased with how your players played in the end?
Yeah, pleased with it.
What do you think you can work on?
We talked about late game execution, you know, late in the game stepping up in practice everyday, taking free throws
as if the game was on the line. I gave Colin, um, you know, a little bit of a ribbing because he's from Jesuit and
he's made a ton of big free throws in his life at state championships and stepped up and, you know,
just kind of left both of them short. These are just situations that you just got to put yourself into and mentally
prepare yourself to be ready, you know, we wanted to actually foul on that last possession and put them to the line
because we felt like, you know, at that point they'd have to make a free throw, miss one, get a rebound, put it back in
in order to get the win and we didn't do that, so we kind of got lucky with the fact that the kid miss the three there.
Yeah.
So you came out aggressive on defense with the press, is that something we can expect?
Yeah, you know, it's what I just told them in there that, you know, we're not stubborn enough to continue to stick with the game plan
if it doesn't work. So the plan was to really press these guys, get up in them, try to turn them over and they stung us early,
you know, they got a lot of open threes off of it, their guards were very poised against it, um, we thought that maybe we could
rattle them and that our depth would get to them but we realized early on that they were doing a nice job breaking it
and getting good looks out of it. So once we kind of withstood out of that run, they've got two really good players who kind of got
going as we were pressing because they got open looks but once we got out of that, our guys really stuck to the script and held those guys down pretty good.
What'd you guys learn from tonight's game?
I think we learned that, um, I think we learned that we have the ability to be pretty good.
You know, when you stick with the script, when everybody just shows up and does their job, we don't have to have the perfect
night in order to beat a good team. You know, Bellevue is perennially one of the best, and they're going to be
very good this year, and first game of the year to come out and play efficiently, play tough, withstand runs, you know,
some of our best players didn't have good games and they really struggled and yet we were able to come out an win.
You know, Max Livingston against Warner Pacific goes five for ten for three, tonight he goes one for seven.
He's not going to do that very often and everybody's going to have their own nights where they go off a little bit,
but to be able to win when we don't play perfectly I think is one of the take-aways.
