Good afternoon mustangs!
I'm Jaydon!
I'm Rhodes!
And this is your West News.
Today is Wednesday, September 25th, 2013.
Tomorrow's low will be 40 degrees and the high will be 62
degrees with a 30% chance of rain.
It's easy for most teens to feel upset when books are
banned from libraries and classrooms because some
adults don't want kids to read about super heroes in
underwear or scary things in the night. But what about
when books are banned because of hurtful racial slurs or
outright racist content? Many classic stories about life in
America, such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by
Mark Twain were written before Civil Rights laws were
passed. Compared to today's cultural standards, the
reality of life was often harsh and full of cruelty. But is it
right to ban books like this from young readers? What do
you think?
Come on up to your Mustang Library during Banned Book
Week to share your thoughts and celebrate YOUR
RIGHT TO READ!
It's finally here—
The first dance of the year is tomorrow, September 26th!
The theme is western, so break out the cowboy hats,
boots, and giant belt buckles and be prepared to do some
boot scootin' boogie. The dance is from 6-8 pm and is
open to all West students. Tickets can be purchased for
$3 before the dance and for $5 at the door. Refreshments
and snacks will be available for purchase too. See you
there!
Congratulations to our PE Dept and all the participants on
the West Fit One team. West got first place in the Fit One
Healthy Schools Cup, Middle/Junior High School Division.
West won $750 for our PE Department. Way to go West!
The quote of the day is from Oscar Wilde. He
said, "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them
so much." So be forgiving, mustangs!
This is Jaydon!
And Rhodes!
Stay classy West Jr. High!
