Nithyanadam! I am Kailashmaya and volunteer for the Singapore Mission.
Basically helping out with all the different activities and helping coordinate some of them.
Just wanted to share with you what the experience has been around volunteering for the sangha.
Now there is one thing with the spiritual practice perspective when we come and listen to Swamiji
and really get inspired to lead much better lives and really be able to make that difference in
our lives. What I have found is that volunteering has also helped me very effectively on growing
further on the spiritual path. Let me try and explain to you why I say that.
When you become a volunteer with the sangha, there is no real expectation that you are doing it
because you want to make money or what we normally associate with working right!
There is a sense of 'oh I have to do this'
but it really comes as an innate drive within me which says 'this is the way I am going to grow'.
And it helps me come from that perspective and say 'let me do the best I can'
without any of the other things which we normally associate with any kinda activity right.
Such as the expectations etc. So for me the whole volunteering has really helped me where I feel very
very passionately about doing something where I am helping
others and helping to share alot of Swamiji's teachings with others
and also do it in a way where I feel I am growing right. How you are
working in the way with different sort of folks from all different backgrounds come together
and for whom this may or maynot be the primary objective but are taking precious time out in doing
this activity and working with all of them. Trying to do either healing at temples
or be it in terms of organising programs over here.
Just being an amazing experience for me in terms of growing
very much in trying to say what can I do with the limited resources we have. How do we best use it
to actually make lot of these visions Swamiji have to make them come true. We have great experience
and I am hoping I can do more of it in time to come. I encourage all of us to really ,as part of a
spiritual practice, take this as a lesson which Swamiji is trying to do which is
work intensely , work very hard and help share alot of Swamiji's great
messages to as many people as possible.
So let me know if you have any questions and stuff. I love to share many more experiences
and also learn how others are doing and take it from there. Thank you very much for listening.
Thank you very much for listening. Nithyanandam !
