Hi everybody, I'm Melissa. Welcome back to CloudMom.com. Answering a question today from
a Facebook follower, Stacy. At what age should I transition my babies from the sippy cup?
This is a great question. A lot of moms are worried about this once their babies reach
one year of age. So I'm gonna talk a little bit about this issue, and I'm gonna link to
another video I did about making this transition easier. But before that, we're gonna do a
few expert interviews from some folks who have recently made this transition to get
their thoughts. So here's expert interview number one, from Beckett. Okay, wait to talk.
Okay, you gotta look right in there. Say your name. My name is Beckett and I think they
should stop using sippy...Sippy cups. Sippy cups...At what age? Two. Okay, thank you Beckett.
Next up, Lachlan. Wait, wait, wait. You can't talk till you're in the camera. You gotta
sit...Hello. And look there. Say your name. My name is Lachlan and I think you should
stop sippy cups when you're 18 months because the tip is very dry. It can infect your lip.
Okay, good. Good point. Okay, so unfortunately in this case, some of the experts were more
correct than others, but here's the general scoop. The American Academy of Pediatrics...
Now you guys have to stop moving... The American Academy of Pediatrics says that around 18
months, your baby should no longer be taking a bottle. I actually went a little longer
with this with some of my babies because they were still having breast milk, so I was still
giving them milk in the bottle. But what I did do is I started to transition them to
get them used to taking a sippy cup at around a year of age, by giving them cow's milk,
giving them water. But one of the things I talk about, and I have another video on how
to make this transition easier, is that the... A soft straw with a bottle actually worked
much more effectively for me, than did a sippy cup which has sort of a hard thing that my
babies really didn't like to suck on. So anyway, let me just check my notes here 'cause I'm
a little distracted by the experts which are to my right. Yeah, that's basically it. So
around 18 months, start transitioning to a bottle with a soft straw or a sippy cup at
around a year to get your baby used to it. And I would say by 18 months or so, you should
really no longer be having your baby on the bottle for too much longer. So I hope that's
helpful. Let me know. Thank you so much for watching CloudMom and see you next time.
