>>NARRATOR: How to use Read:Outloud Toolbar and outline on Bookshare.
The first thing we are going to do is go to the Read:Outloud on Bookshare.
Here your toolbar is located on the top. To add or upload your book or file that you
previously downloaded from Bookshare, you can click on the little "e".
Again if you need help with this step, how to download books on Bookshare, there is a
tutorial video that you can watch. After you upload your book, it will appear
right here. You can change the font by making it bigger
and smaller with the two "A's". The speaker allows you to either put your
courser where you want it to begin reading or if you just want a specific part of
the book read you can highlight that. Again your outline is over here and if you
would like to add an outline you will go to the outline tab, add outline.
Since my book is non-fiction, I am going to click non-fiction. It will automatically appear
right here. You can change the text by simply clicking
on it and it will turn purple. You can type the information that you would like it to
say. To add more main topics we will click on the
Non-fiction Main Ideas and Support Details and select the three boxes with the plus sign.
This will add new subtopics. If you would like to make one of these sub
topics a supporting detail, all you need to do is click on the indent or the red arrow.
It will form into a subtopic or a sub-subtopic. You can select the out dent and it will move
back to whichever you desire. The three highlighting tools allow you to
help you with your main topic, your sub topic, and your sub-sub topic.
You can select information that is important to you from the text, highlight it, and it
will appear in your outline. As you keep reading the book and decide that
you would like to go back to something that you highlighted, all you need to do is double
click on it and it will bring you back to the exact page.
You can also add notes, which allows you to add more detailed information.
To do that we are going to click on the new note tab or the pencil and paper.
You can either type something in here or you can search the internet and add notes as well.
If you would like to rearrange your outline, all you need to do click and drag it where
ever you would like it to go. If you where will you are reading and you
don't know where you want to put your notes, you can always put it under unassigned notes,
that what you know where it is at all times. The dictionary tab allows you to search for
words on the internet. The four books icon allows you to make a bibliography.
The two arrows, or the slide bar, allow you to change the view from either all of your
book, all of your outline, or half and half. You can also move the outline as well, depending
on how big you would like it. This video has been sponsored by the University
of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Disability and Assistive Technology Center.
Thank you for watching this video and have a wonderful day.
