Good morning to everybody
I have been assigned to answer
some questions, I hope you will be kind with me
but before that I would like to insist
on something which is very important for us
we hear you say: oh, they are so annoying with the Simón Trinidad issue
you, the media, haven´t even mentioned the theme anymore
but we insist, we persist, that Simon Trinidad
is part of the peace delegation of the FARC
and he isn't here
and he is missing to complete the delegation
indispensable so that he can apport with his knowledge
our comrade Simón Trinidad
before your questions, I would also like to ask some questions
why don´t we use these spaces, openened to us,
to do some peace pedagogy?
why all the information, well,
not all the information to not exaggerate,
but 99.9% is directed to the themes of disagreement
why don´t we use a little space, too,
to highlight agreements?
for example, peace is a national purpose
I think the answer is positive
Let´s convoke people and their organizations
let´s convoke the rich and their organiations
called business assotiations,
to put on a balance the positive interests of peace
and to resolve the contradictions that are still separating us
If we manage to construct a solid base
of the points we agree on
surely we are going to have more possibilities to resolve,
listening to everybody, the points that separate us
Our solidarity to the workers of Drummond
who have declared themselves in hungerstrike
demanding their rights
we ask ourselves
was it necessary 4 deaths and dozens of wounded
was it necessary all the traumas that ocurred during
50 days of protests
of the population in Catatumbo
to finally sit down and talk?
How are they expected to do it
if the only way to make them listen to the just popular demands
is when they block the roads?
How are they supposed...if the criminalization policy
after a year they say to a universitary girl
over there in Cauca, we're sorry,
you're not a member of the FARC
but she had been in prison for one year
that´s today's case
but it happens in a lot of occasions
these are the typical problems
that feed the conflict
just analyze
one thing here, another thing over there
and that becomes a conflict
and at the conversation table we have the firm purpose
and desire to find a solution through discussion,
through debate, to find agreements, which is not easy
as the conflict is complex, too
I think I´ve already tired you
so the questions are going to be short
please go ahead
excuse me, good morning
what practical mechanisms have you talked about
with the government for Simón Trinidad to be here?
I ask this because there has been said it could be through
satellite, through a videoconference from the prison he is in
or is his physical presence here absolutely necessary for you
look, from the beginning we made some proposals
which should be in your archives
we are asking for his pshysical presence
the other ways are very limited because
they don´t respect the commitment of
confidentiality we have at the Table
that's to say, we wouldn´t be able to discuss
anything with Simón Trinidad because that would be public
now that we are clear about the ways they intercept
telephones and the whole internet
remember mister Snowden
imagine: we, discussing confidential topics of the Table
with Simón through the internet
that´s not possible
we have proposed formulas
to make Simón presence here possible
legal formulas
but there must be a political willingness
it would be a great opportunity for the USA
to show that they are really interested in supporting this process
and that they are not only "helping" in times of war
I wanted to ask
after the revelations of Snowden
have the FARC changed their communicational system
to assure confidentiality
fortunately, in the jungle we don´t use internet
so for the big majority of us it´s easy to be without internet
and while we're here, making use of that marvellous technical wonder
we still don´t think everything has to be internet, or computers
look, the russian are going back to the writing machines
we don´t feel that affected in our internal functioning by this issue
Besides, remember that this is not new
What Snowden did was ratifying something
that had been going on for a long time
the problem is that through the internet...
it becomes a weapon to prosecute the people
people cannot express any opinions
because they become legal issues
don´t believe that we're talking about
something from the developed world
in Colombia there's a programm, called PUMA
please don´t ask me what the letters mean,
it´s an abbreviation
which is exactly the same.
control of the internet and all communications
is there any news about the case of the north american soldier?
no, nothing they haven´t contacted us
we´re simply waiting for them to receive him
we´re not requiring anything
we simply detained him, investigated him
and as a gesture of goodwill,
we`re going to give him back
and we say, look, here is this man
there are proofs that he's not a turist
let´s say that his curriculum is clear
his belongings tell us a lot
but we say, ok that´s right
here he is, come and get him and they don´t want to
that´s is outside of our control
in the case of Catatumbo
they´re saying that mister Jérez,
who is leading these protests
has links with the FARC
Do you recognize him as a real peasant fighting for
the interests of the community?
look...
we have insisted on the theme of the criminalization
of the prosecution we've insisted on the theme of the
commentaries and opinions of the people
we´re talking about an issue that is about
the interests of the people
there are simply a lot of coincidences
and coincide in a solution doesn´t mean
that doesn´t mean..
that they feel identified with us or we with them
not all the people who agree with the Peasant Reserve Zone
among them a lot of officials of INCODER
you can't say that they are part of the FARC
that is perverse
to affirm those kind of things or accusations
that is called lying
and trying to deflect attention
to look for solutions to a problem
towards other things
I´m going to take advantage of the fact that you're breathing
to say goodbye
thanks a lot
