-It's not something to make a movie about, it's not an important story.
-I always think he's gonna suddenly... just like, remember.
-But I don't...uh... -So I was working construction at the time,
mostly out of town. I was working for my brother-in-law doing
sub-contracting. I'm originally from Wisconsin and I was way
down in Texas. I was at a bar, having a beer and a burger,
and David was there, and there was a Yankees game on behind the
bar. And I made some comment like, "Wouldn't it
be nice to buy the championship every year?" And David totally agreed.
-I don't know what that means...
-Well, sort of. We had a couple of beers, a bunch of beers,
and I talked and David listened. I think I needed him.
-What do you mean?
-Um...
I had just lost Holly. My youngest daughter
like, four months before in an accident. And David listened. David always listened.
I think I talked to David more than I talked to my wife or my therapist.
And he gave me his business card and told me to call him.
And I did call him, on a hard day.
On her birthday. And again, I talked, and David listened...
...and a week later I got an envelope from David.
And he said he thought we should go away, me, my wife, and my daughter and my son.
And David would pay for it. Or he said we could use the money for whatever
we needed it for.
-We went... ...to Hawaii for two weeks.
Together as a family. Without that trip, you know, we wouldn't have
made it as a family. -What?
-He's my best friend. And I don't care that he can't remember. I'll
remember for him. My family will remember for him.
