>> What’s going on?
You want me to put this on?
MEREDITH GRAVES: KTLA weatherwoman Liberté Chan was on camera
last week when some tweets came in from viewers
that weren’t satisfied with her choice of outfit.
>> Because it’s cold? >> We’re getting a lot of emails.
>> What?! I look like a librarian now. >> That works!
MEREDITH: Women from all ends of the spectrum, whether they’re women
in positions of media power
like Liberté Chan or women
like the 15-year-old girl last year whose high school made her put on
what they called a “shame suit”
to cover up a wardrobe dress code violation,
are constantly being told that their appearance factors
more into the well-being of the people in their immediate surroundings
than their, like, careers or education does.
>> Several students at All Saints School
were suspended today for wearing ripped jeans to class.
>> “Buy some decent clothes
and have more respect for your unborn child.”
MEREDITH: For every woman
that wears a glittery party dress on TV,
there are five hundred thousand bucket hat
No Fear t-shirt cargo short shower slide-wearing
unshaven dirty teeth motherfv(#ers
critiquing women’s appearance?
Just because I’m on TV doesn’t mean you have a right
to tell me how to dress.
OFF-CAMERA: Meredith, we just got some tweets in and people
are kind of upset about your outfit right now.
