SIRR>>> My name's Peter Sirr, I'm the Honorary Curator/Librarian at Kederminster Library.
HOLMES>>> Okay then Peter, what exactly is happening with this library over the next
few months? SIRR>>> The woodwork from the library, all
the doors and pannelling etc are being taken out, so that they can be conserved, restored
and any cracks in them tightened up so that when they are put back into the library - no-one
will notice that they've gone out but they will last for another four hundred years hopefully.
HOLMES>>> What sort of stock have we got in here then?
SIRR>>> We've got about four hundred books, most bound in this brown manner, and they
are generally speaking books on religion or extracts from the bible, arguements about
the bible, commentaries etc all designed to make things easier for the vicar when he's
writing his sermon. HOLMES>>> And what's going to happen to those
books, when the work's been done? SIRR>>> These books are going to be individually
wrapped and parcelled and taken away into store, so that we can then, remove anything
behind the covers to protect the walls and make certain that there's no damp etc
HOLMES>>> How long are we expecting this work to take?
SIRR>>> Rumour has it that it will take until January but it could go on and little bit
longer, depending on what is found HOLMES>>> And how important is it to do this
work? SIRR>>> In the sense of, there is no other
room or library like it in England or Europe, it is extremely important, extremely important.
